visine
For those of you that don't know what Northern Soul is here is a little background. After 1960's Motown sound that was released in US and died, but for some reason this sound of Soul survived in North of England. These crazy parties were organized and old record of bands that recorded them many years before in US were suddenly very popular in North of England. The most popular and original clubs were Twisted Wheel Club in Manchester, Wigan Casino and Blackpool Mecca. This underground scene was a great outlet for working class stressed out at low paying jobs to go and dance all night to this obscure music that was pretty much already forgotten in US where it started. Their DJ's were valued on the rarity of the records they had (keep in mind these were extremely rare records since they were long out of print in US where they were released on small, independent lables). It was not unusual to see the records titles mentioned on the flyer next to DJ's name so peple could expect to hear these super rare tunes. Nowdays oldschool Goa parties are pretty rare everywhere in the world...almost dead one can say...except in Belgium. These guys absolutely love old school Goa. Kind of like their Northern Soul counterparts many decades ago they are hunting tose old and long out of print records, organize parties and bring acts that will play Goa sound or at least layered proper Trance that has strong connection to the original Goa. There is even a label, Suntrip records in Belgium (and France) that continues to release this sound. I guess one can say Belgium is Northern Soul of Goa Keep up the good work Belgium Hope I can make it to their parties one day.
Lepton
To make sure one doesn't get a wrong impression : every style of goatrance is played in Belgium ... full on and dark the most followed by oldschool then suomi and forest sounds and progressive the thing is belgium is very small so everybody knows everybody so it's very easy to gather all oldschool lovers on one party ... but there are many parties were you won't hear any oldschool sounds ... long ripps
what lepton sais is true, but still, a lot of oldschool lovers for such a small country

pr0fane
Haven't partied in Belgium, but I remember a year at VooV, where we camped right next to some Belgians who brought their own PA, and played some absolutely horrible nitzhonot all fucking weekend. Anoebis
As Vortex said, every style is available in Belgium, but we have a different scene from other countries, that's for sure... Anyway, more organisers came into play promoting old school melodic goa trance and acid trance sound last year (for years I and 2 friends were the only ones organising these specific parties) which means we have an old school party now every 2-3 weeks... It seems like there is a small old school scene indeed And well, the future looks good! Next week we have Ka Sol playing here and in the future we can expect an old school dj set from Boris Blenn, Technossomy Live and Subcouds and Color Box and... so many parties are going to happen I hope other countries will know a revival of this mad psychedelic acidic kind of trance soon, as otherwise it will be VERY hard to continue, as there are only a limited amount of groups to let play live, but I won't give up hope! The next Suntrip cd will feature groups from allover the world, so it's still there any many peoples hart! Also, I think there are some other countries with still a small goa scene... Sweden has some goa parties in the summer Israel has the old is gold group Japan has a small old school scene as well (a friend of me is there and found out...) Ah well, actually this is not a reply on the topic, but more like a silent hope that it will continue like this! Therefore I say: Thank you for everyone for supporting this scene and for everybody in the world that still likes this kind of music, even if it is not hip! and now I can say it for once: BOM SHANKAR! I don't mind full on music but after every party some dude start blasting the most horrible fullon out of his car in the morning while there are houses around everywhere. Several nice locations were fucked up like that by people who want to show off their horrible taste in music. If they want to listen to some music in the morning why can't they just close the doors and play at a decent volume. NOOOOOO, everybody has got to hear they have the newest CD from chemical crew . well, too bad for them it's hard to impress me.

As you nkow, oldskool goa is well spread throughout the mp3 networks, so the difference in belgium is that the ppl attending oldskool goa parties have these tunes at home, and a big portion of them have a lot of goatrance at home (wether or not original). As for the dj's, it's often so that when selecting tracks to play they're looking for as much as possible tracks that are even less known, or to select the more 'known' tracks by how many times they've been played say, the last 2 months... sometimes it looks like a downward spiral

That was just an example to describe Northrn Soul scene a little bit. Northern Soul survived in England and developed a significant following after it was long dead in USA, just like old school Goa does in Belgium today. That's what they have in common. Sure there is also full-on, progressive etc. in Belgium, but there is also quite a nice old school Goa scene too which virtually dissapeared pretty much everywhere else in the world except for a few sporadic parties here and there that are nowhere near consistent and frequent to actually call it a "scene" like in Belgium. Agneton
Lol, believe it or not, there are even people thinking of organising a Nitzhonot party soon 621564 I call it a great idea We will bring back the old "Ptzatzot La Gabot Ve Resisim La Risim" madness. It will be totally "Karahana". Yes, Nitzho slang...
Anoebis
In which city mainly are parties taking place? 624795 Mostly Antwerp, sometimes Ghent as well, but mostly in very small farmer villages, where we found some nice spot without any neighbours like you know, nothing is far in Belgium, a party on the "other side of the country" means 1 hour drive, héhé @ Visine: are there any old school goa trance parties in Russia? Because I remember Zirrex... Awesome!

Sideffect...
we do have a goa virus here, and it keeps spreading and attracting new people... I remember 4 years agoo the most popular parties were all posted on that website goatrance.de, well there was a period belgium had more parties then germany, for those who don't know, do I, I'll estimate, Germany is like 7 times that big then belgium and goa was as much present as here, even more, neighbour country together with holland, the fact is it's even more insane, 95% of all the parties thrown in a whole year are based in the north, above the capital BRUSSEL, so the flemisch side each weekend 3 goaparties isn't a rare thing, and I'm talking about a surface (see map) well tried to give a picture don't know if you can put in perspective, but to be honest I think it's a shame , it's overdose, too many, overloaded, and not fun to party anymore but that's my individual experience, even the gouverment freaks on the goaparties and hates the fact that french drugusers come over here to party and get wild, I don't mind, would do the same
IAMbenjy
i would like to see more goatrance on international parties. filteria was on the full moon . but who the hell would go to that german partie nothing else to do then partie and take drugs... ??? i saw a few oldschool dj's on soulclipse. that was wicked . And ofcourse when baba D is playing we get spoiled ... so future perspective's ...
