Isan and Schnauss are old. it's like discovering Hallucinogen or Shpongle 10 years after ))) 629490 Yes but they're new to Pavel. So please, let the man have his joy of experiencing new sounds, and stop expecting everybody to be on the same line with your musical development. have a nice day. -oopie
supergroover
BTW, i heard Kukan-Dub-Lagan a month ago live and i've totally changed my mind about his music. It's quite ok 629352 Really? I thought it was one fine example of generic sounding psy-(chill)-dub... superficial and all.. edit: this was snapinho not supergroover! (having group's acceptance can be reflected on your self-image) what many people seem to lack is respect. having a topic "psychill sucks" is purely negative in its meaning and creates 1) bigger delusions of your "better/right" taste 2) negative debate music has no absolute value, and gets meaning only when one gives it an opinion. So you see, one should learn to enjoy the possibility of getting something out of music, and leave the negative aspect out of it since it just adds negativity. NT
Of course there were, that's what the dots stand for. But yes, it has gotten stale, most acts seem to have run out of creativity. We need new influences! More crossover, more eclecticism! Look the other way, check out some funk, hiphop, psychedelic rock, breakbeats, reggae, soul, clicks and cuts, turntablism, atmospheric stuff, whatever. But please: innovate!! 629166 Yes, I agree.... plus: They should quit tagging everything with "PSY" nowadays! I'm damn tired of all those so called "OMG! WTF! PSYDRUMNBASSBREAKBEATCHILLOUTLOUNGEJAZZMETALGRINDCORETRANCE" self invented 'PSY genres' which have nothing to do with 'psytrance/psychedelic' bla. in the first place! PKS
"I'm cool because I am listening to something different from you. I have finally grown up. The music I listen to is better than your music bla bla bla". The above sentences is how I translated the headline of this forum topic... I think the people in this discussion can be divided into two kinds of people: THE OPEN MINDED music listeners and THE NARROW MINDED music listeners... Personally, I have listened to other kinds of electronic music/deep ambient music long before I listened to anything related to psy. Here in Norway, we have a good ambient artist called Biosphere, who relesed an album allready in 1991. Something that made me start listening to electronic music in the first place... By the years, I have listened to all kinds of electronic music, and I like many different kinds of music... For example Ulrich Schnauss who was mentioned here. He makes good music, but nothing "NEW" anymore... If you have heard a couple of Schanuss tracks, you will recognise the rest... About Trentemøller... Sure, he makes good music too, but nothing really groundbreaking/never done before... Trentemøller is good, but for sure THE BIG HYPE this year by music magazines etc worldwide... What's funny to see here, is that some of you on this forum has totally swallowed this media hype, and see it as something totally groundbreaking/never done before thing... That tells me how little you know about electronic music... Been stuck in a bubble of Shpongle the last ten years??? What always surprise me here on this forum or other places where "psy people" hang out, is how little open minded people are... Either, WE ONLY LIKE SHPONGLE or it's: NOW I ONLY LIKE TRENTEMØLLER/TO HELL WITH THE REST... Childish statements that really shows clearly how little openminded you are about music in general... Some of us manage to appreciate different kinds of music. I listen to beautiful psychill WHEN I AM IN THE MOOD FOR IT! I believe my demand for different kinds of music comes with the mood and place I am in... I can listen to everything from jazz to rough, minimal techno. Something some of you obviously don't handle at all... Right now, I'm listening to Pete namlook (something I have done for over ten years now). Still I don't throw my beautuful psy chill in the garbage... I mean, some of namlooks productions are extremly simple, and not that interesting. Still, I respect what he does... What comes out of Fax (the ideas) these days, is all done hundreds of times before... I even saw my releases on Chill Tribe Records is mentioned here. And I totally understand it. The two compilations has several different kinds of chill on them (=too much to handle for someone who only likes Trentemøller). From deep ambient/IDM (Circular/Saafi Brothers), to tribal/ethnic chill (Adham Shaikh(Makyo), to dubby Ott like soundscapes (jong) etc. It's obvious that some people just can't handel more than one style... But it's freedom of speach, and you can blame psychill as much as you want, but in the end, you are the narrow minded. Maybe one day you can appreciate more styles of music. That's when you are grown up in my opinion.... PKS (WHO DOESN'T LET SOME MEDIA HYPE BRAINWASH MY MUSIC TASTE....) Congratulations to Pavel for discoverring other kinds of music, 15 YEARS AFTER some of us....

Congratulations to Pavel for discoverring other kinds of music, 15 YEARS AFTER some of us.... 630162 Your statements are not convincing, I'm sorry to say. It's clear you're passionate about the music you like, and that which you've put a lot of effort into, with varying results. But at the same time I think you refuse to recognize that an abundance of opinion ultimately equals a sort of truth. And the truth in this case points to the idea that the psy chill scene has been in the process of stagnation for some time now, and the other genres are getting more and more of people's attention. Furthermore, many of the voices here add up to the idea that psy chill is going to have to adjust in order to be listenable again.

You are right that some psy chill artists have stagnated... But, I think the same goes for many other genres... That the other genres get more attention is ok for me, but is that a good enough reason to talk shit about ALL psy chill in general? THAT, is what's bothering me here... I have seen people complain about full on on 20 forums, and nothing has changed... or yes, it did... it became worse About the psy chill, didn't get bored with it and still enjoying it, so no reason for me for saying no to a whole genre, but that's just my opinion of course
Shaft
To be honest I don't believe PKS's releases are deserving of the sucky label. I agree that some psychill is getting stale, but there's some fresh releases this year that still push the bar. Yes I want innovation in music, but that's extremely hard to find. The best thing is to explore another genre completely - I remember when I was into hard rock/metal a few years back, I wouldn't go near any of this 'psy stuff'. Immediately when I discover Infected, Shpongle etc I think they're amazing because it's a completely different sound to my ears. Too many artists copycat each other, but it doesn't mean the genre sucks.
PKS
And change is almost always a good thing, don't you agree? 630173 Well, to be honest, I am of the opinion that electronic music will never again become as good as it was in 1994 - 1996, so I think many genres has taken bad directions... I'm sure some psy chill artists should develope their sound, but still I see it a bit unfair to put ALL psy chill under one here... For example on Relaxed Journeys, you have ten different artists, with ten different styles of ambient/psychill/tribal etc. Still, all of them sound like Entheogenic to some of you? Anyway, I find the word psychill very stupid. It doesn't say anything about the style... Who decides what is psychill?? Is Saafi Brothers psychill just because they released their music on a psytrance label back in the days??
PKS
To be honest I don't believe PKS's releases are deserving of the sucky label. Thanks Shaft! Anyway, with Chill Tribe, I try to present many different kinds of Chill, not only psy related stuff... That's why I have brought Circular in (Biosphere alike ambient), Saafi Brothers (deep, hypnotic ambient), Adhah Shaikh, Makyo etc. (tribal chill), Entheogenic (psychill?), etc... I will also release an album by Polyploid, which is a break beat album (sort of like Deviant Electronics). Deviant Electronics is also participating on one of the tracks on this album. The next compilation on Chill Tribe, will have rock influences (Nick Taylor, the Prana/Snake Thing guy), dark vibes (Kris Kylven, the UX/Syb-Unity Nettwerk guy), idm chill (bluetech), housy chill (Digital Mystery Tour), atmospheric chill (Robert Leiner, the Source Experience guy) etc... With other words, VARIATION. Something those who only manage to like one style, probably will disslike...
