I just made a nice new avatar but it is 51kb and the limit is 50kb

I think 50kb is too small! It should be changed to 60kb.

Minimize it in paint if you don't use photoshop... make it 2 percent smaller, then it will fit perfectly

use "easy thumbnails" it's freeware,

just google,

 

there you can resize and change the quality like you want it

You don't understand, you lose quality. My avatar is a fractal and now it is imposible to see the fine details.

Its all about the detail.

I really had the same problem as needle ninja, my avatar (the dark bunny one) was fucked up, and that was really sad, seeing how much time i spend on photoshop with it. and i just needed 10 kbs more as well.

 

But i'm gonna make a new one, as my hitler avatar hasn't made any impact on pavel(the represent of the jews) yet no comments what so ever :'(

Pavel's not really representative of the Jews. Most I've met are much nicer.

It used to be the case (and still is the case in old threads) that when the forum couldn't display an image for some reason the post containing it would have the words "user posted image", which one could right-click and select "view image" so one's browser would go to the image URL. Nowadays if the forum can't display an image it gives no indication that there's supposed to be an image there, and if I suspect that there is I have to open a reply page and copy the image URL from the quoted text into the address bar if I want to see it.

Hmm yeah you are right, it used to be like that. I will research it a bit and see what the IPB team says about that. Sorry that I do not have an instant answer though!
