naw.. its not true house or true psy..

it's more progressive housey psy.

allot of it is marks own work tho innit.. hence the psy influence..

it's all a bit plod plod bling plod, plod chuka chuka bling for me..

tis for the trendy crowd who are more bothered about snorting coke and plucking their eyelids to care whats been played..

but that's just my opinion.

Psychedelic house is the style I have been playing for the last year or so. Coincidentally, Mark Allen is also the DJ that turned me onto it last summer. :) Several artists that I play frequently are...

Anything involving Tim Healey in the last couple years (already mentioned to some extent) - Electric Tease, Quirk, Allen & Healey, Slide vs. Healey, Dallas Kiss, Microtek, Triple-X, Paris & Healey. When it comes to this sound, he is THE man.

Anything involving Mark Allen - Hopefiend, plus all his projects w/ Tim

Purple & Ronan (separately or together)

Many of the side projects of the Son Kite guys - Minilogue (my current favorite project), Filur, and occasionally a good tune from Trimatic or Son Kite themselves

Ticon & N.D.S.A. (same guys)

*Some* Green Oms material (they vary from housey to rather dark)

Saiko-Pod/ gets a bit housey at times

Export Audio (guy from Space Safari plus somebody else) put out a really great 12" earlier in the summer

Slide

Eat Static pulls off the occasional wicked house tune (as well as just about *every* other style)

On the more prog-house side (which can get decently psychedelic at times):

Steve Porter & Thomas Penton do really good deep, driving remixes (although I have found their original material to be rather boring)

Blackwatch can pull out some good remixes

I have heard some good things on occasion from DJ Nukem

There are many many more, but the names escape me right now as I am sitting in the office away from my music collection. :)

I have a mix online of what I consider to be "psy-house" that I recorded back in March:

The hosting site limits to only 3 downloads per day, so grab it quick before the max downloads are reached. :)

Oh, and to make such a broad based generalization that the style is for the "trendy" crowd that is more interested in "plucking their eyebrows" and snorting coke is completely fucking asinine. It is one thing to say you don't like it...everybody is entitled to their preferences on what they like or don't like. It is another thing pidgeonhole the music to a certain crowd based on the fact that you like it or don't like it. That is a ridiculous generalization and belittles the people who are genuinely into that sound and work their asses off to play it or dance their asses off when they hear it at a party.

I have heard it played at psytrance parties on many many occasions and the people jamming on the dancefloor are the exact same people that are jamming to full-on psytrance. I pesonally have played it at many a psy-party in the last year+ and the people that are enjoying it on the dancefloor and asking me what I was playing are the exact same people that have been going to psy parties for years and doing the same when I play more trancey styles. I know a lot of psy DJs that have taken up that style in recent months and not a one has taken up a coke habit or become more "trendy" or really changed a bit from when they spun psytrance.

Not to say that it is any *better* than other styles of psy-electronic, but it is simply another ingredient in the pot. I like the variety. When I go to a psy party, I don't want to just hear psytrance all night....give me some psy-house, some psy-breaks, psy-tekno, goa, etc. Keeps things interesting.

Good music is good music...nothing is specifically meant for a certain crowd.

That is my $.02. :)

what, a whole thread on this and no mention of the masters... EAT STATIC? imho they give 'psychedelic house' a good name with their pure-fun anthems like epidemic, monstro, city of sin, etc... i dont like the style at all, with a few exceptions, but i do find eat static can make music in any style that still sounds real good. aside from that hopefiend does have some killer songs (just gotta avoid the vocals and/or over-use of repitition) and i am keeping an ear out for that new album just released (its one of those things i'd have to preview before buying, no question about that).

i have got cases full of melodic, minimal, progressive, when i heard mark allen the other night something just hit the spot..it was new, fresh and funky..for a night of partying, what's wrong with starting of psychedelic breakbeat, moving into psychedelic house, then making a move into full power. In the morning progressive psychedelic. i like it all.

Saru - it's an acquired taste..

don't get me wrong, I just think that prog house appeals to more of a mainstream *gap* type crowd.. don't really want it at a psy/techno night..

maybee a bit of it, but I found marks set a bit too.. nnnph I don't know. considering marks roots I would have hoped for a more of a journey like psy (melodic/fullon/darkeven) type set.

I prefer my house dirty/chunky/dubby and i prefer my psy to be psy.

Obviousley my mind isn't closed to prog house, but it's yet to amaze me. And when I go to my regular night out I expect to be amazed.

p.s

Anyone who's into prog house want to suggest a few tunes that might enlighten me a bit? +

was only jesting with the eyebrows and coke comment =)
