Guest andy
whatever your budget stick more on it - give yourself plenty of time - dont rush it, and tell your friends to fuk of and buy a ticket unless they have help out! dont just think about music - not enough promoters look at the depot and all the small aspects that make anight fun! Guest Mugge
Here are some things to think about ( learned by experience... ) 1. Make sure that there will be enough people to pay for all your expences. 2. Make sure that you pay the artists. If possible in advance, it'll give a every Dj, artist, or whatever you bring a good impression of you and your organization ( this is important since it is yor first party ). There is nothing worse than an organizer that shows up in the morning (messed up on all kind of chemicals...) with some bad excuses for not paying them all the money that the you promised. 3. Make sure that you can trust the people that you work with. ( some people in this business are quite lazy, and prefer to sit at home with their megasize chillum until the ast second... these peple should not be trusted with important asks like "bring the sound system - they will show up 5 hours to late or something like this") 4. If you bring a live act: Make sure they have enough time to make a sound check. 5. Find a good soundsystem... 6. Have a good time, while you're organizing the party... and...have a good party. :-)
Guest Elysium Project
Big names are not always the right thing for a new organiser.... Why? Because they can and normally are quite expensive compared to other bands / dj's. Another thing is that just because you hire big names does not mean that you get more quality. So my advice is keep it to a minimum of big names and go for less known but good Dj's. You can always later go for bigger parties with bigger budgets..when you get more experienced and a get more established name for yourself. I know it's tempting to book some big names - or even just use big names - so you can attract morre people but you also have to remember that if not enough people arrive you will be in deeep trouble finacially. Even if a big name appear on the poster does not always mean more people. Remember it's all about the music - not the person behind the music :-) Have fun and good luck. Guest Spiralfire
i recently started to organize parties (have done two, Earthdance Byron and another small bush doof) and i have learnt heaps from them... firstly i would say make sure you have HEAPS of extension leads!! because you cannot have enough! make sure your dj's know when they are playing and ensure that they stick to your timetable, otherwise you might have a few dramas on your hands make sure you have plenty of free water available!! choose your genny well. Talk to your sound and light ppl about how much power they will need, otherwise you could have trouble. try not to go too BIG though, especially for your first time, you could end up losen quite a bit of money, and that wouldn't be nice. all you need is good sounds, it doesn't matter where they are from or what their name is. just promote it well, make sure you are putting it out on all the local mailing lists, websites, record stores, etc... hope it all goes well mate
Guest Deep Kick
you might understand this. but have a CONCEPT!
Guest Spiralfire
yep it definately helps to know what you are wanting to acheive, and then steering your visuals, music, lighting, etc toward that...
Guest woutski
My advice is this: if you have to ask other ppl for advice on organizing a party, then don't bother to throw one! 8)

Guest Spiralfire
i would say go for it man!! i had absolutely no clue how to organize a party, and everything turned out awesome... basically i think the trance scene has an amazing support network, if you advertise the fact that you are doing a party, you will more than likely have DJ's asking to play and people willing to come early and help setup (well thats what it is like here anyway) What country are you in? Guest Psy-m-bio-teK
the 2 biggest things I look for in a party Wicked Music and awesome decor now you don't have to have big name acts - actually sometimes they take away from the atmosphere, if they are not playing a good set. JUst wicked local dj's has always been good enough for me. Decor- you don't need "BIG NAME" deco like NOS etc. , but some cool deco, and some sting art allways goes a long way. MY main question is Does Phili already have a psy scene, or this brand new ala are you stepping on someone elses toes?? ps. A wicked flyer also helps to promote the event properly another key element, promote the hell out of it.... if you need help with the flyer design I would be glad to lend a hand. Guest me
thanx for your help guys Psy-m-bio-teK , the reason i want to have big names is that cause there arent many goa-heads in philly but if i have some big dj people will definitely come from othere states and possibly from other countries (ive seen that happen before at parties in new york) But i think i will end up either having someone with experience involved with this ( just hand them over the whole deal with organizing the party) or not having a party at all(Ill fly to Goa or somthn instead) So we'll see. My idea of orginizing a party came up when i was on astral projection website and i was looking at their schedule of live acts and i didnt see US there. So i was like why dont i invite them, what would it take. but i think i was thinking a little bit ahead of time not realizing how much itll take another good point you made about psy scene. See the population of philadelphia consists of almost 50% black people and surprisingly enough they dont listen to psy music. most of the clubs are ghetto. they either play rap/hip-hop or cheesy trance and thats what the whole city with some exceptions(like me and my friends) listens to . so i dont know anyway thanx for your support yall
