...."my head feels like a frisbee" is one of the greatest songs ever. and "Tales of the Inexpressible" is one of the greatest albums ever made. similar to what someone said befoe, it is a "sonic orgasm".

you know i listened to the album last night back on the basis of that other post with strumpling et al... and I hafta say.. i think the first album's better. just hangs together more evenly, has no dodgy vocals, and the flute is a bit more imaginitive. Don't get me wrong it's still killer -_-

but i prefer the first one.

Track 1,2,5 and 8 are indeed particularly impressive but the rest is kinda weak in comparison. Shpongle's debut was more consistent in the song writing department with no weak moment in all its 70 minute+ glory IMO.

I don't think Simon and Raja have exploited the full potential of the new style yet...hope they get it right with a next album.

Be sure to check out the latest LiquidSoundDesign releases (Mana Medicine and Kumbha Mela experiment) cause the UK (psy) ambient scene rulez...

hehe, thats wha i thought at first too. I liked the first one better, but this album requires more listening. It is a much deeper album and it is still getting better after the 237th time i listen to it. I think it kills the first album.

tHe first one is much better, no comparison. The second one was a really big disappointment for me, I only like a couple of songs on it.

If you really want a good chillout CD, listen to OOZE- Where the fields never end!!!

Are you shpongled is darker and trippier where keeps the same feel for the whole disk.. Tales... is more beautiful and explores other forms of psychedelic music. When i heard it as first i thought it was realy weird... Not in a good way.. But i droped........ and then listened to it. and it is simply beautiful in every regard. This album has no weak moment either. I really hate to say this but posford but lots and lots of very sutle things in there that you can not hear with a sober ear. I suggest dropping lay down in a very dark room close your eyes and press play in your disk man. And you will definitly not be dissapointed for that 70 minutes or so. good day!

I'd have to say the 2nd Shpongle fits the 'Shpongle For The Family' slogan a bit better than the first.

It is much more accessable, I've shared both CDs with people of varying ages and sexes, and in general, the 2nd one seems to be appreciated by more people, esepcially after listening to it more than once.

I've probably heard both albums well over 100 times now (am i weird?), and both still entertain the hell out of me. I still notice new things tied together that I never realized before with both albums.

My vote goes to Tales of the Inexpressible. I think it is a much better album.

The sheer DIFFERENCE between every track (hell, even each track itself has a couple different styles to it) just blows my mind.

Go around the world in a TEA DAZE and you'll REALLY love the new one (althought I loved it before I tripped with it). It's Inexpressible.

Agreed. When the first Shpongle came out, I Was Shpongled. But some of the songs lose it in their second act, going with the Hallucinogenic approach and taking the first half of the song, then putting it through a grinder to create the second half of the song. I was never a fan of that approach, and still am not.

There is none of that on Tales, which is why I think it is superior. But, who really cares? Get both albums and listen to them back to back!!! :)

Ever since Tales came out, I've listened to it every day, sometimes 5 times a day. I've never done that with an album before... it is simply the best album I've ever heard!! :)

Thing is, it got alot better once I could whistle along with the flute, and memorize the detail so I could "groove" to it.

I love you guys! Shpongle fans are the best of the best!!!

i prefer 'tales...' too because there are many more feelings and emotions in the tracks, 'are you shpongled' is indeed the more trippy version, also very great ...

i listened to 'tales... ' many more times than the first shpongle... also the tracks on 'tales.. ' are saved in your head after you listened to them.. i always hum some shpongled tunes ... it's inexpressible... it's a masterpiece ...

The first one was awesome when it came out, but after the second one came out, it seems really minimal by comparison. I notice myself losing interest in some tracks about half-way through.

That being said: They're both still F*ing awesome. Is there anybody else out there (besides Strumpling : ) ) that finds a need to pick one as better a bit superfluous? It's like comparing "sex" and "hanging out with friends". They're both great, they're both different, and they should both be enjoyed.

Well ... the 2nd one is much more various and original imho ... the 1st one is good on the first part, but out of this world on the last 3 Tracks which all are true masterpieces (particularly the 20 mn last one which I like more & more by its stereo complexity, seems it sounds 3D, moving in all places of your head) ... that's why I can't say whose one is better for me (maybe the 2nd if you put a knife on my neck) ... too hard :-) I like to listen to both alternatively :-)
