Anoebis
I always hear everyone saying that Astral projection sounds like commercial music... Well, when AP started their music (10 years ago) it was still véry underground, and they simply never stopped making that music!! For me though there's a new kind of commercial Psy-trance, and that is stuff like Darksoho - Depth of Emotion I know many peopel will say now "are you nuts" but that's what I think of it... It are BAD used guitars on a heavy beat, and I think there are TOO many bad guitar-tracks that are just made to be a "dance-floor-killer" Are there any people that think the same about it?? And what do you consider as Psy-pop?? (exept yahel.... ;-))) Bom Shankar! Anoebis
Guest oa
depends where you live. Here nothing psychedelic is 'pop'.
Guest Soulhunter
Shpongle ? (now i'm really banned from this site Joking:) Difficult one, Anoebis.. I don't know any Psy-pop but I think you mean rip-off music like the Johann Bley track..."Stranded"...with this Van Halen sample wich is a dancefloor killer but a little bit poppy:)
Guest Elysium Project
I agree that the guitar tracks sound horrible...but that's something to do with taste...I do not like heavy guitars mixed with trance....at least not so far. I really do not see trance or psy as a underground movement anymore....I think too many people are into in nowadays (compared to when I first entered this scene in 1992-93)...and even the film industry and the advertising world use this music style more and more.... Anyway I have nothing against our music going commercial as long as we still have some control over our situation and still make music with a nerve and quality to it... Guest Protex Midget
Yahel isn't Psy-pop. He isn't psy-anything. He's Club-Trance!!! And Dark Soho - Depth of Emotion, is one of the best guitar tracks ever IMHO...
Guest oa
Im gonna start working on some Psychedeath Trance. Guitars rule if they are done right.
Guest --== MiLeS ==--
At least Dark Soho got it right in the song writing department cause some trax on Sun Spot are excellent IMO from a compositional point of view. I dunno, I think the way forward is to blend traditional instruments with the beats we all love instead of stripping the sound to its bare essentials..ehm minimal *sigh*...which has its charm of course but god forgive if that 100% becomes the psytrance norm... The Psyambient scene shows what can be done if etnic influences, weird samples and analogue instruments are added to psychedelic trance...nowhere commercial but an essential step forward IMO. Now lets see if someone can get this combination right for fullon psytrance. Etnica was close with Be on Go and Patricia our Happy on Equator but not much of this style was left in the dreadful Nitrox (although Beast man and Trip Tonite are excellent)... As for Istratrance, only Cosma and Psysex seem up to the standards IM, AP, Sandman and Tandu set long time ago...the rest is simply forgetable and has the money tag written all over it... Guest pesito
anoebis: i think that alien poject sounds very (commrecial?), midnight sun is a very nice album, with lot of killer tracks, but IMO it sounds too "fashion".

Guest kadafi
I just wanted to say that I dislike voicesamples from cartoons in psytrance... The music may be good but mostly the atmosphere gets a bit ruined (for me) when I hear something from the Simpsons or South Park... it just doesn't fit in... Also véry annoying are the Matrix-samples, at first I liked them, but they just got to popular... (MFG, Absolum, GMS, etc...) Mixing psytrance with these well-known samples seems kindof usual, not-at-all-psychedelic to me, and therefor I'd call this psy-pop... Don't get me wrong, I adore voice samples, even if they came from a well-known movie, but only if that movie suits in a particular psychedelic atmosphere! (like in the famous but not psy-pop!!! 'Dracul' or 'LSDance' or 'Resistance'...) and Anoebis, you're right about those guitartrax... to many bad ones out there... But the good ones!!! wooohooo!!! Guest Setsuko
agree with Kadafi , 'the evil turkeys' by psysex must be the worst psy-pop track released IMO... i just don't get it how it's supposed to fit in the track ... psy greetz ☻
Tatsu
i like the evil turkeys a lot, the sample really fits in in my opinion. first i didn't even know it was from southpark 'cause for a while i've only seen the german cartoons from southpark. but even knowing its from southpark doesn't matter, in fact it makes it even cooler for me! Guest MK
i don't really like guitar in psy-ytrance trax as well... but check out KINO OKO - they use guitar really well - very funky and psychedelic
Guest Rabbitakis
There is no Psy-Pop! Psychedelic is not popular at all ! Just see how many clubs in your area play different music every night , almost all of them ... Just visit your local Musistores of your area how many Psychedelic Cds are you going to find . Maybe you will have one or two or sometimes three(if you are lucky or living in a big city) ... Just listen your radio and you will see that is very hard and almost impossible to find a station that plays psychedelic music ... Just turn on your Tv is there any info for psychedelic trance?? i dont think so .... Just pick randomly 100 people from your area and ask them" , do u know Depth of Emotion from Dark Soho ?? or Astral Projection - People Can fly"??Propably they will not even know what is psychedelic trance... SO WHAT IS PSY-POP?? I cant see something popular... in this music..
Guest Mugge
Nice subject, time to throw up some of my feelings for this scene, The music is commersial these days. Since it is released someone is trying to make money and fame out of it. Who's on top of the list is hard to tell but there are a lot of artists that releases one crappy album after the other, year after year, just to keep them in the business? Because what happens if you stop releasing music is ...no more live sets which means no more free travelling around the world and no more free party and that is something that no one want to miss. so we keep on mass producing music, cos the party goers likes to hear the freshest music and the producers gets to travell and party for free, since someone wants to hear their unreleased ( crappy ? )music. The fenomenon is more known as supply and demand, the very foundation for ...the market and commersialism... ere we go, into the psytrance industry... everything is commersial even the "oh so underground psytrance scene". I'm not blaming any one, i'm doing it myself, and i like it alot. This is just the way it works and probably always will, psytance has sort of grown out of the underground it is a global industry, for freaks, funny isn't it?
Guest Rabbitakis
Something that is popular you can find it easily all over the world thats why is popular .... Is it easy to find info , music, clubs , stores which is involved with psychedelic trance? I dont think so , maybe in Germany or Uk .Is that global industry?? My country Greece has 10 stores propably that promote psychedelic music , and we have hundreds of stores that promote rock, pop, house,r&b music... The same situation exists in most countries all over the world ... I s PsychoFreak culture more popular than rock culture or dance culture ??? - How many cd s can you find in a Virgin Megastore 50 maybe 60 , is that commercial? Virgin megastore has thousands cds ,of other music genres, Psy-trance is not popular music , it was borned underground and it will remain forever underground....
Guest kadafi
psy-trance will remain forever underground???? Nèhhh... We'd all like that to be true, but that's not the way it works... Most things are born underground, and don't get popular right away... Some just don't get popular... like our beloved psychedelic trance! But I think that at this moment, in my country, psy-trance is no longer underground either... Maar de tij zal keren...
Guest JanUa
laten we hopen... but that is in the hand's off the party organisers!!!!!!!
Guest Setsuko
yep, in the psytrance scene... the music comes in the first place... then the money. but as Janua said, the party organisers are responsible... as long as we don't see big party introduction posters next to other commercials on the walls in the city ... i must admit that i don't realy have this underground feeling anymore, i'ts more like a very special spiritual feeling... ☻
Guest Mugge
Funny to see that someone from greece wrote that, a country that has ( in my opinion ) one of the strongest scenes, big parties, big clubs running every weekend and loads of people fixing parties. Is PsychoFreak culture more popular than rock culture or dance culture ??? Nope, but people are trying to cash in on the scene. I'm not saying that Infected mushroom are selling the same amount of records as Brittney Spears or that Space tribe are selling more pants than Levis, but they are selling -> making money, a good sign of commersialism even though it is in a small scale.
Guest Rabbitakis
In Greece we have 2 to 4 parties per week(rarely 5) ... These parties happen in the two major cities , Athens and Thessaloniki ... It is really hard to find in other cities trance parties ,... or even techno or house parties... As i said before there are only 10 maybe less musicstores in the country that have wide variety in psychedelic trance. .. If this is is one of the strongest scene 'as mugge says' then what we can say about germany or uk or france... Here the parties are full of people that dont have any idea of what they listen , or what they are doing ,they dont really have fun and only care for taking high doses of LSD(most of them have bad experiences) and MDMA(most of them are "Kavlies") ...Thats happening in Greece(especially in Athens) , Greece hasnt develop a strong scene in psychedelic music it has in psychedelic drugs. But this is not a phenomenon here Greece , this happens everywhere... So what is really underground is us , people that understand, appreciate, support and love to listen these special music with or without the use of chemicals... Thats underground ... and will remain forever... Last word to "mugge": Even the most underground music genre has some popular songs but that doesnt means that these songs are commercial or popular in the rest of the world.. "Kavlies" are males that usually eat more than 500 mg mdma and trying to @!#$ every female in the club
