What do you miss the most from the Goa period?

And don't tell me the melodies in general, tell me some elements.

Here is what I miss the most and can't find in todays psy trance.

1.The liquid basslines

Most of the artists today full on, proggy, dark or freestyle use a more ''dry'' bass than Goa artists used to use. Only some Suomi stuff have these ''liquid'' basslines (like Salakavala) but they're not good enough.

Perfect examples of ''liquid bassline'': Talamasca-Sinai and MFG-Peaceful Relaxation.

2.The ''synth over synth'' technique.

It's when a track has a synth playing a specific melody and after 16 beats, a second, louder synth enters playing the exact same (or slightly faster) melody.

Perfect examples of ''synth over synth'' technique: Tripsters-Skitzophrenik (the first two minutes) and Psygone-Psyquest.

3.The final killer climax.

It's simple. When a track after many minutes of power and melodies finishes you with a final killer climax. Unfortunately today only Filteria and Azax Syndrom seems to make final killer climaxes.

Perfect examples of final killer climax: Astral Projection-People Can Fly and Filteria-Navigate.

the sound of a real 303... and the sound of real hardware... now alo of stuff really does sound like computer games music, and I'm embarrassed to play it for friends... software might make your studioe cleaner and easier to manage, but it sounds shit... I have huge respect for artists who use real instruments instead of software... but this seems to be almost 0 artists in the psy scence, mostly oenly Techno and Acid artists use real instruments... the lack of seriousness, now musiscinas take it way to serious, it's psytrance for god sakes, it's not beethoven, have fun, make stuff for a laguh, not for political message that nobody but a few drugged out hippies are gonna here... leave that to U2 and co. But basaically the scene, like so much in life, has lost it's spirituality and fun, and now it is just mass produced commercialised rubbish... most of it... this isnot ot say that it isn;t all good music, it's just not goa... it's electroninc music, nothing more nothing less.

I miss the "hardware" sound. The dirty, acid sound of a 303 and those deep, magnificent trance leads.

It would be a cool project if someone would try to make a track using old hardware only. It's a pain in the ass, but it will be worth it.

I think most producers are lazy to use hardware.. fare enough but I still have respect for so many of the techno and acid techno producers who use the real hardware in studio and live... nothing like a real 303, nothing can ever emulate it, not even the hardware emulators... I stull enjoy al my old acid techno cd's so mcuh, even though most here would complain it sounds to old shcool and basi (wtf?)

For many of us, it's too damned expensive. I'd have loads of hardware synths if I could afford it.

Non! I still have the CDs & I can listen whenever I want :) I don't want the music to stay the same. If it did we would be complaining about the lack of change.

I just miss the parties. I'm not such an active partier anymore.

I totally agree. Nothings like using the old machines and some of us still do.

Yeah, hardware sound!! There is almost no one working like the old days. I start to think i am the only one  The sound feels more alive instead of this plastic sound...

HARDWARE ;)

I miss music that makes people close their eyes instead of airpunching :)

I miss the journey-like arrangements

I miss the psychedelia in psytrance, compared to most things today those old magical tracks still sound otherwordly both in a sober and that other state of mind

I miss those fast screaming, ripping, mad melodies that just totally melts me...

- Green Nuns - Conflict

- Growling Mad Scientist - I'll Be Back

I miss those slow mystical, spacey adventures...

- Planet B.E.N. - Trippy Future Garden

- Ololiuqui - Phyt

Sure there is some very good new music out but they are good in other ways like funkiness, power, etc. But almost none capture that old wonderful atmosphere.

The thing I miss most is the MYSTICISM of the tracks, but I guess those feelings will never return and were just part of my life as a teenager...

HAHAHA nice one! Nah, what I meant is that 'special' feeling, you got when you bought one of these 'oh so rare' cd's like once in 4 or 5 months (97/98 period i'm talking about), and everything sounded so mysterious, like personal journeys... only a couple of artists were releasing back then.

I mean a tune like:

Oforia - Why not on mars?

always made me think Oforia wasn't from this planet, and tried to alienate people who listened to it. Not something that would originate from this earth! Same goes for the old-school tracks with spiritual stuff in it (tracks like: Fluro Conspiracy - Ancient Suns) it all sounded so surreal, far away and mystic. But that feeling has gone for years now...

And the artwork always appealed to me back then, and also added alot to the atmosphere the music gave me... but nowadays artwork like that is just uber-cheesy because it has been ruïned by the modern psy labels.

Men, First time I heard some set of Astral Projection, I truly believed, that these guys are on some very special drug and in very special dimension and was sure they reach -out of being - experience....

Yes!!!!! Organic sounds!! Hardware sounds!! sounds that you can hear and feel more in your body!!! and i miss music with spirit , feeling, energy! and complexity!! no music for be famous ......

I miss the melodies, they were dreamy and otherwordly. I also miss the ethnic influences, the soft, rich basslines, the analogue and organic sound hardware creates, the complex, clever multi layering and the psychedelicness of it all (today's 'psy' is NOT psychedelic by any stretch of the imagination). Most of all though I miss the spirit.

Cool thread and input.

I don't miss any yet, as my collection is not big enough. Every time I track down a goa cd, it's new to me. Luckily for me, there are still a lot of these "new" cds for me to track down.

I guess I am one of the lucky ones. :)

I miss the acid-didgeridoo sounds that are the hallmark of "Twisted"

I miss the oddly timbred mysterious sounding melodies from the likes of Pleiadians, Technossomy, Man With No Name (Thankyou Filteria for doing some of this)

I miss Goa melodies in progressive (like early Shiva Chandra)

Intelligent use of sci-fi/mysical samples
