RTP
I own this track already for some time, but only recently I discovered again how good it actually is! (And I mean the original, the Ticon remix is not as good.) I love this nice moderate but steady progression and the club feeling that it has to it... Is there anything similar out there? Where can I find such stuff? Is this already beyond the traditional psy scene?

krelmatrix
aw, come on nobody here knows Chris Pointdexter? damn I'm familiar with Chris Pointdexter and have another of his records (on ACDC Rec.), but I don't have anything useful to add....other than that I like the Ticon Remix better. You mean the Tribal Thing/Tuf Tuf/Tiger Inside vinyl, huh? I checked samples of that ... I like the sound of Tribal Thing best ... is the piece worth getting? I like the original version of Darkness better than the Ticon remix because the Ticon remix is too trancy and sounds too stressed to me, you know ... the original has a sort of deeper progression and clubby feeling to it, which is what I like so much in that song and which is not present in the remix... krelmatrix
You mean the Tribal Thing/Tuf Tuf/Tiger Inside vinyl, huh? I checked samples of that ... I like the sound of Tribal Thing best ... is the piece worth getting? Nah, I'm referring to the "Bayo" vinyl that came out last year on ACDC. It's not so deep from what I remember, but was a cool tribal chanting sort of thing. Check it out - I'm sure there are samples somewhere. I guess it was one of those records that passed through my case in the span of about 2 months, so it must not have been too overly memorable. I like the original version of Darkness better than the Ticon remix because the Ticon remix is too trancy and sounds too stressed to me, you know ... the original has a sort of deeper progression and clubby feeling to it, which is what I like so much in that song and which is not present in the remix... I personally dig the stressed tranciness of the Ticon remix. It's got that elegant dark little melodic hook that just knocks me on my ass every time I hear it. I love the way it just smoothly builds into this absolute monster of a track. It's one of the most explosive progressive tracks evargh, IMO. For me, it's the best thing Ticon ever produced, which is saying a lot since I'm a complete fiend for their music. I'm really surprised that it didn't get played out much more...come to think of it, I think the only times I've ever heard it in a party is when I play it. I will have to give the original mix a closer listen, though. I'm much more into deeper sounding music than when I first bought the record 2+ years ago, so it will probably be more my style now. BTW, the guy behind the Chris Pointdexter project also produces under the name "Playmaker". I think that sound is more house-oriented, based on what I've read in biographies, but I haven't heard for myself. Might be worth checking out. RTP
"Bayo" ... checking out right now ... it's good, also the Playmaker dub (that is even better than the original)! I guess I'll check out that Playmaker project then... The Darkness remix is the best Ticon according to you? I don't know so much from Ticon, but there's stuff from them that I like better ... Some Simple Sounds for example...
krelmatrix
The Darkness remix is the best Ticon according to you? I don't know so much from Ticon, but there's stuff from them that I like better ... Some Simple Sounds for example... I'm a sucker for a simple, non-cheesy, effective melodic hook. The only other one of their tracks that comes close for me is "Texas Magnusson". Both of those tracks make me feel easy like a 5 dolla east-side crackwhore. "Darkness" takes the cake, though, since the melody is a bit more sinister and stringy. I was actually quite pissed that nobody played it at Voov 2004 (at least that I heard) when it was brand new and *should* have been waaaay overplayed. Although it's probably a damn good thing since I surely would have wet myself on the dancefloor, rather embarassingly. It takes a very special track to make me lose control of my excretory functions. Sick Bastard
I love this track and Ticon's is one of the few remixes better than the original for my taste
Basilisk
I agree, the Ticon remix is something special (I, too, only hear it when I play it out). As for the original, it's also good--in a different way. RTP I suggest you check out my blog and look through my "Beatport Selections" (there's two right now) as I tend to recommend a lot of that clubby kind of progressive. Vision & Canedy, Llopis, Snake Sedrick, and Rai all have some material that might go well (and this is just off the top of my head). Also, if you haven't heard it... check the Real Delay EP. I know Texas Magnusson It's good, about on the same level of "good" as the Darkness remix ... but I don't seem to be that much of a sucker for an effective melodic hook... (hmmm, this is actaully interesting ... what am I a sucker for, musically? I don't really know ) RTP I suggest you check out my blog and look through my "Beatport Selections" (there's two right now) as I tend to recommend a lot of that clubby kind of progressive. I'm prelistening right now on Beatport and I must say some of the stuff I find there does not sound bad - like Llopis - Back In The Days or Snake Sedrick - Find Me or Thomas Penton - Deeper Vowels (NOT the andre absolut remix!) ... it seems like I have to dig around more in the progressive house category since I like that type of sound a lot... The Echölab EP is not bad either, especially the Junk remix...
