Darkshire-Audio Bomb 6. Double Trouble-Coucou 7. Narcosis-Corruption 8. N3xu5-Connecting to the World 9. Para Halu-Twisted Sunset ------------ The first release from MoonSun records, Dark Steps of the Mind is full of heavy hitters. Not dark and evil as many may assume, this is really just pure, full-powered psychedelia! Lets get to the review, shall we? Track 1-Kalilaskov AS-Game for Death Vadim C, living in Israel, begins the release with his insanity-inducing style, full of crisp and colorful synths and energetic basslines, sometimes coming out with some really strange stuff! A high pitched vocal floats around, almost intelligible. Sometimes reminds me of Dejan or similar artists... A good track, and a great starter! Track 2-A.P.E. vs Jul-Raw Forgive my ignorance, I dont know who these artists are or where they're from... Its a good track, chugging and rhythmic. Nice percussion work, but honestly it doesnt really stand out for me... Not bad though, but nothing really new... Track 3-Adi vs Kerberos-Rust in Pieces One of my favorite tracks right now! Full of energy, nice noises, tasteful "glitch" effects. Head banger for sure! At about 4:08 mins, a really cool bassline comes in, somewhat reminding me of Audiopathik's basslines. Squishy sqeeks and nice key changes bring the track to an Unsanity inducing climax! Love this track. Makes me smile ! Track 4-Hagenith-Astaroth the Nosferatu This is what Im talking about! Very original, fast paced at 155bpm, this is dark atmospheric stuff! Love this one too. Maybe a bit fast for some, but thats why the cdj has a pitch control, right? Sounds just as good at 150 as it does at 155. Looking forward to more from Hagenith! Track 5-Darkshire-Audio Bomb A pretty good track, full of crazy noises, almost a full-power morning track! Like the bongos in there. Although its a nice tune, it doesnt quite reach out and grab me by the brainstem. Better than a whole lot of stuff these days. Track 6-Double Trouble-Coucou Double Trouble indeed! These guys are Dmitri Dark Elf and Andreas Apnea. Somewhat subdued bassline, smooth atmospheres a la Dark Elf, nice cybernetic synths, good panning work! I admit this one didnt really grab me at first but as I hear it now, its good! Subtle, and good! Almost melodic as well. Ive always loved Dmitri's tunes, but Ive never heard Apnea. Maybe I should look into that... Track 7-Narcosis-Corruption Another original one, this cd's just full of unique styles! A bassline that almost sounds like its bubbling very fast out of some mud or a volcano... Im going with volcano, cuz its a scorcher! His album will be out soon (or already?) also on MoonSun. Looking forward to it! ~6mins, a sample says "Warning! System Unstable!", then it really goes crazy! I can just imagine what the dancefloor would look like... Great work here! Track 8-N3xu5-Connecting to the World The slowest track on here, from Portuguese artist and co-label head of Sin. Ive come to know N3xu5's music as powerful without being too fast, well done, and definitely his own. Another good one here! Fans of N3xu5 wont be disappointed. Track 9-Para Halu-Twisted Sunset Listed in the cover as only Adam Hohmann, I guess Andreas wanted to sit this one out (or maybe a typo...). Para Halu are another group who Ive come to trust to release nothing but good stuff! As the name suggests, this one is perfect for the moments right after the sun sets, but before the real darkness sets in and the stars come out, or the very early morning, when first light begins to creep over the horizon... Powerful, and definitely Para Halu! I admit, that at first, when I saw the title for this one I thought, Uh Oh, another cheesy release. After listening to the psyshop.com samples, though, I picked it up, and Im very glad I did! In a sea of cheaply made, mass-produced psytrance, its often frustrating trying to find the good stuff. This one is definitely a jewel in disguise! The cover artwork by Smart Graphics is good though a bit lower quality than, say, the latest Nano release. But hey! We're not here to critique cover art, and what does the artwork matter when you're playing the music? A nice first release from MoonSun, and Im looking forward to picking up some more releases! This release travels from nighttime madness a la Kalilaskov, through the night to the early morning hours, before the sunrise, that oh so perfect of times, when everything starts to recoalesce into reality... Im continually surprised, and finding new things to love about this cd! I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of any of the artists here, I have a feeling you may just discover some new gems!
