DJ MONKEY PILOT WITH SPECIAL GUESTS:

9.30pm: THE KUMBA MELA EXPERIMENT

A multi-cultural fusion inspired by the Kumba Mela gathering in India, the album ‘EAST OF THE RIVER GANGES’ features collaborations between members of Dub Trees, The Orb, Suns of Arqa, Tangerine Dream, Dreadzone and Uri Gella, and was produced by YOUTH, who will be appearing live with Wadada and traditional Indian musicians Kadira Dervish, Narab Dervish and Shehnai. This is an adventure into phat beats and dub… “a journey through the eye and spirit of tribal native urban nature”(Youth)!

11.15pm: KAMEL NITRATE

NELSON DILATION will be known to many as long-time whirly crew member who over the past ten years has become a successful DJ and club runner in his own right. Kamel Nitrate is the long awaited and highly regarded product of his partnership with TONY MARRISON, fusing electronica with asian and arabic grooves, mixing dub, drum and bass and very funky breakbeat. Tracks such as ‘Tandori Shakeaway’ from their forthcoming first album have already made a big impression on the whirly dancefloor and Andy Kershaw has proclaimed them to be the “future of world music”!

1.30am: EAT STATIC

Enter the eccentric world of dynamic dance duo MERV PEPLER and JOIE HINTON who effortlessly juggle hip hop beats with classic slabs of salsa, but their speciality of spacey trance-techno has made them one of the UK’s most exciting live dance acts. After eight studio albums, this decade-long partnership has spawned a myriad of creative highs, critical accolades and ‘sheer fine times’! While technical brilliance has never eluded them, emotion and melody have always shone just as brightly, and the humour of sci-fi b-movies and alien culture has made their “superior home-brewed electronic brain boogie … and free range acid noise”(Q Magazine) … music to the ears!

3.30am: THE MORRIGHAN

Celtic trance duo CECILY FAY (dubbed the Kate Bush of dance music) and ex-Crescendo producer, DJ and electronic wizard JON X mix classical music and mythology with progressive euro-trance, drawing on traditional celtic forms for mood and lyric. Whirl-y-Giggers will be familiar with their unreleased mega-anthem based on Mozart’s Requiem together with their earlier No2 National Dance Chart hit ‘Remember’. The Morrighan is the name given to the Irish goddess of battle, prophecy and change. The music is “pagan perfection draped naked and shameless on the altar of sound”(The Source)!

Eat static will be mindblowing & kumba mela experiment sounds interesting... but The Morrighan cheesy trance as the last act? Eat static won't have been sooo much better to have as the last set - they've got much harder funky music than The Morrighan as far as I know...

What's your opinion tetsuo? I'm really not sure about the lineup & the price...

There's usully alot of kids at Whirl-Y-gig, it's been going for years, alot longer than alot of psy-trance nights. They may play some psy, but you'll probably find it'll be a mixture of music..
