Too few remixes?

Why are so few remixes made within the goa/psy scene?

Within the “popular” trance scene, there is almost nothing but different remixes.

Personally, I’d love to see more remixes. Especially remixes of the older tunes - keeping the classics alive.

Alien Project’s remix of Astral Projection’s “People Can Fly” is a very good song, probably the best Alien Project ever done.

Man With No Name 2000 remix of his own “Teleport” is also a very good remix.

There are more examples of good remixes. Well, now I’d like to hear what you think – do you want more remixes? Or is it better if everyone just focuses on making entirely new stuff?

First of all, i find the art of remixing to be a symbol of the commercial electronic scene, therefor i consider it to be a positive thing that the psy scene falls short in this area.

Secondly, i think that if you check carefully, you will see that over the years the ratio between original tracks & remixes has grown smaller. In other words - More & more artists are beginning to remix.

Example:

Crosslinks complation, on Iboga.

Various Remix Releases (such as "Morgenlatte: The Remixes")

Artists who dedicate themselves to remixig (NASA for example)

why would you want to see more remixes, if there can be new sounds everyday? i always prefer a new, original track over a remix.

ok, some tracks are so great that you want more of it, but i believe that making new tracks requires more inspiration than remixing an old one, that's why iv've got more respect for a new track than a remixed one.

Okay it isn't THAT good, but it doesn't suck donkey balls... lol. Let's put it this way: that remix is one of the _better_ songs I've _heard_ from Alien Project - and I have not listened to everything Alien Project composed.

Back to topic.

Don't get my wrong now, I think it's disgusting with all the remixes within the commercial trance scene. Just look at one of those Trancemasters, maybe you can find one or two "original mixes" or "album versions" on this double cd compilation, the rest is remixes, extened mixes and "DJ whatever featuring someone in search of sunrise 5am vocal ultimate club radio mix non-instrumental edit".

By the way, obviously psytrance music is more difficult to remix than "commercial" trance.

And remixes in general are not as good as the original tracks, the "spirit" of the track is usually lost in a remix. The Alien Project remix of "people can fly" is, for example, far from being as good as the original track.

Hmm, maybe I don't want more remixes either. =)

The G.M.S. remix of Deedrah - Reload is one of the best tracks I have ever heard.. And the point is that it is a REmix.. ;o)

And the Hallucinogen remix of UX - Outside this World is also a great track, with some nice liftoff's...

Conclusion: Not all remixes is bad, BUT new stuff like someone said before, is more creative, and will keep the psy-spirit alive...

transphere, I think it´s a matter of what you compare the (People Can Fly-)remix to.

Compared to the original...it sux donkey balls.

Compared to other Alien "Reject"-stuff ...it friggin´rules.

you think there's too few remixes huh? have you ever tried searching for 'gms remix' in your favourite mp3 sharing engine? should provide you at least 40 desacralizations of various popular psytrance tunes :)

hahahaha

try

space cat - power up (oforia remix)

space cat - power up (psycraft remix)

or infected's wider :))) domestic, astrix and live mixes :)))

also eat static remixes of tasty mushroom and electro panic

and enormous number of GMS remixes of every second track :))))))

P.S. the remix of People can fly is stupid - I cant find any reason to be made such a ridiculous thing.I really like Alien Project but it's their most stupid track.Compared to the original it sound like bullshit. And everytime i listen to the remix i compare it with the original track. It's not necessery for the remixes to be better but it's stupid if they sound times worse.

And when I heard this remix on party, it was the most downlifting thing which I ever heard :(((((

Maybe it's too hard to be Astral Projection's tracks.Actually there isn't any great remix of astral track made by another artist. The only which I like is the remix of life on mars by Oforia but still the original is much better.

And the remixes made by Avi & Lior themselves are just completely great - the new age remix of kabalah and the '96 remix of mahadeva - I still can't decide which of them is better - the original or the remix.

Peace

I like to think of remixes in electronic music as a "cover", so to speak, of another group's work.

The best remixes (and covers) are those that take the good elements of the original and add something different from the artist doing the remake, i.e. creating a new *interpretation*.

Therefore, I don't quite agree that the normative concept of remixing is inherently unoriginal.

Someone brought up the Cross Link compilation before. Anyone who says this concept album is unoriginal is, imo, quite mistaken. All of the remixes are significantly different from the original versions; many would be impossible to identify as a remix if one were not aware... i.e. P-woland's remix of Curved Air (both versions of which are awesome :)

nb: some good remixes from the last 6 months...

eargear - trancehousexpress (ticon rmx)

tegma - revolution (son kite rmx)

bitmonx - erdbeer kiwi (reefer decree rmx)

synthetic - africa (gms rmx)

space cat - power up (oforia rmx)

infected + yahel - electro panic (rmx)
