Guest kingdok
To all you djs who spin CDs -- do you find it's best to rip the tracks you intend to play and bring them to the gig on 2-3 CDRs rather than taking a bunch of originals? I realize this dwarfs one's selection (and therefore their set's flexability), but I'm hyper-anal about my CDs getting accidentally messed up. And realistically, unless you're playing a longer set, you're not going to blow through more than 3 CDs worth of music, so why bring your entire collection? Basically, I just want to know I'm not the only person who makes travel-proof copies of their music when they play out. Keep in mind, I also don't believe in transporting original CDs in plastic sleeves, for fear they'll get minutely scratched. Even if they still play fine I don't like knowing the disc I paid good money for is in any way flawed. Yeah, I know...I'm hopeless.
Guest r2d2
My friend does that too, and so did I once. I don's see anything wrong with that. You can put a lot of music on 5-6 CD's of chosen tracks from your collection and if you play and hour and a half set that's plenty and will allow some flexibility too. It will be less painful to transport, you don't have to worry about your CD's being stolen or damaged since the originals are safe at home etc. I guess some people will think you are "unprofessional" or "not a real DJ" (as I was probably judged) but I wouldn't care about them. I'd let them carry their truckloads of music and think what they want.
Guest kingdok
Good advice. Those same people would probably frown upon the idea of DJing with CDs, period. The hell with 'em.
Guest Freewheelin'
Them CDJ-100 freaks me out. That light that flashes faster.. and FASTER in the end of a track... Bah! Bring on the good ol' DAT machines. =)

Guest clivefrog
i too am paranoid about my beautiful original discs getting damaged, I use only burnt copies of all my cd's in my cd folder, as soon as i get a new cd i make a copy (2 if it's a compilation : so i can mix between them) and the original goes into storage. this also means if my cd folder gets stolen (god forbid) i've only lost cdr's , not 308 original cd's. Guest small grey creature
I care so much my original cd collection, and i will not work to get original cds (and belive me, get original psytrance in mexico is hell of expensive) to some smart-ass bastard stole it or to avoid any accident... So i always make a "stash bag" on cd-r just with the tracks i like and want to play (7 or 8 cds for a 2 hours dj set average) and after that i give the cds to friends or other ppl that cant get the newest/coolest/call it what you want stuff (its a nice thing to open ppl to this music it will make your city scene bigger... Järsimähäiriö
On a related note, has anyone seen the kind of folder that would be ideal for housing a collection of minidiscs? I have folders for cds as well as a sturdy road-case for cds, but would need something to keep those small darned mds organized while on the road. Guest .onyk
You can find some md cases here: http://www.storecore.co.uk/welcome.html Don´t know how their mailorder works though, since I haven´t ordered anything from there yet..
