Guest Bahamut
Substrata a masterpiece... hmmm am I the only one who doesn't see (or even better: hear) why? My tips: Indio - Snowdrifts Klaus Schulze & Pete Namlook - Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Mother Part 1 they're rather easy listening but very beautiful
Guest ~EA
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT??? Bahamut - friend - I say take another good listen or two to Substrata. Not as background, but carefully, meditatively. If you then maintain the same opinion, then you've proven there is no accounting for taste, to each his own, etc., etc. I'm stickin' to my guns on this one, confidently. It's a gem and a masterpiece. Kobresia alone transformed my life.
Guest Bahamut
There's no doubt it sounds good and there are some beautiful tunes (poa alpina, the things I tell you, kobresia). Maybe I don't like it that much because of the repetitive and similar way the tracks are constructed. There's little progression in the tracks itself and in between tracks there are only noise and rain-like sounds... and because of that I don't see a "bigger picture". Just seperate tracks with some nice sounds and melodies but where do they lead to? I even dare to say it sounds a bit uninspired to me. Why some consider this the best ambient album of all time... beats me. Yes, it is atmospheric, but it doesn't take me somewhere and it doesn't move me I don't know that much ambient yet, but from what I have I like biosphere the least. So yes, it is a matter of taste

Guest ~EA
You don't have the original Polar Sequences, do you, Bin Laden?
Guest Bahamut
I just discovered Constance Demby - Novus Magnificat ...wow! I need to listen to it a few more times because this is complex music... a classical/new age/spacemusic hybrid... not really ambient but I just had to tell it because I've never heard anything like it before! Guest etherealphaze
when u are very tired or exhausted, (or u've ingested some mindexpanding substances,) put on Biosphere Shenzhou or Substrata, and dream away.. then u know the power of his trax; then u know the idea of repetitions with subtle changes... And u'll know what ambient is all about .. catching a mood, a feeling, a vision, that becomes a journey of inner space.. why i said u should be tired or in altered states of mind is because this music is more accessible from those states then our normal busy mind, but once achieved u can access these deeper states very easily. its not just easy listening, its more deep, meditative. if u dont like that, real "ambient" is probably not ur cup of tea.
