Reznik Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 ive used the arp only once in an EBM track, it fitted perfectly! but for trance i think it sounds too cheesy, what do you think? Quote
Malevol3nt Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Of course! :posford: Arpeggios can sound really cool, especially when you effect them with a dynamic delay and some filterings. I use them quite often. But I'm allways careful not too cheese it up too much tho. Quote
Reznik Posted November 26, 2007 Author Posted November 26, 2007 which arp mode do you use? up, down etc? Quote
SeaWasp Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Play real arpeggios Fair enough... I've used them, but only after I've written the main lead. As for directions... Up, down, and the one that alternates... never random Quote
Malevol3nt Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 which arp mode do you use? up, down etc? There's more then that really. Some vst's have programmable arpeggios, u can set the length of the notes etc. The random arpeggio can sound nice too Quote
Otto Matta Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Not yet. I enjoy making my own arpeggios. But the time will come, I'm sure, when an automatic one will do the job. Quote
frozen dream Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 did u say airspeeder? up, down, left, etc. Quote
NEMO.BOFH Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 strydr, one thing is spamming in the offtopic, but dont even THINK about starting in the fucking music making section! Quote
Daniël Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 I use them often, but never in the lead, they are always more in the background of the mix. Quote
Anakoluth Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 Not yet. I enjoy making my own arpeggios. But the time will come, I'm sure, when an automatic one will do the job. anak agrees. Quote

Colin OOOD Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 OOOD and Voice of Cod are certified 90% arpeggiator-free. Quote
Reznik Posted November 26, 2007 Author Posted November 26, 2007 OOOD and Voice of Cod are certified 90% arpeggiator-free.so you dont dig it or what? why not? Quote
Colin OOOD Posted November 26, 2007 Posted November 26, 2007 so you dont dig it or what? why not?I prefer to write my own arpeggios Sometimes you find a preset with a cool arp though. Quote
acidkills Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Or find a cool preset and change it.. Recently I use the more often.. But never up or down, maybe up & down and never random.. Depends what effect I wanna get.. Quote
Colin OOOD Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 Or find a cool preset and change it..Sometimes Not always. Quote
NEMO.BOFH Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 i like the randomness and the way you can program some vst's... Quote
Symphoid Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I'm not a huge fan of pre-programmed arps. It takes away the challenge of composing. Quote
drekmajster Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I prefer to make my own to prewritten ones, but I rarely use melodies anyway Quote
supergroover Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 they can be cool. you dont have to use the whole sequence.. you can just use two notes or whatever sounds good.. Quote
needle ninja Posted November 27, 2007 Posted November 27, 2007 I always wished my Yamaha W7 had an arp on it. I have sequenced the basic 3-note arp before but I like the odd ones when you set then to latch and play different notes. Haven't used an arp in ages, however and I sort of think of them as passé. Quote
Jikkenteki Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 If I'm going for an arp'ed sound I generally tend to write mine own arps. If I think about it, I do often tend to use arpeggiators to "busy-fy" a lead I have already have clearly writing to function as a variation of the original. Unlike many I am also a fan of the random mode as I like to do little things to "break" patterns and keep the ear interested. Only rule I can really say is I use 'em if they sound right for the situation. Quote
cronodevir Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 4123 or 1324-ish arp, with a gate alternateing from half to 4th...with a delay, and some reverb....bam! Add a chorus and cuttoff/reso/PWM automation..and you got something that causes women to get wet inside! Quote
Colin OOOD Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 But why synthesise something when you can just as easily use the real thing? Quote
Veracohr Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 I always just create the arpeggio with the notes rather than an arpeggiator. I don't imagine any arpeggiator pattern written by some random person is going to be exactly what I want on a given song. But if I were to play such a part live, I would need to create an arpeggiator pattern. Quote
