Guest spacemonkey
AutoMath, that seems like quite a reasonable explanation. although scarier music to scare off people might be a bit far off, it might be right. of course it is so with much underground styles it might get hip but after a couple of years only the real fans "survive" and the vibe is back. Guest veridia
The US has a different demographic than the rest of the world. Club trance isn't that big here, Fatboy Slim was massive here, Chemical Brothers, Prodigy, that is the electronic sound that can capture MTV. On the radio side you have the DJ Sammy types. But either way, you wont get psytrance to be popular here. Country music & hip-hop are dominant, and have been for years.
Guest Zero the Hero
EP writes this : "Author: .:::EP (---.ds1-hhl.adsl.cybercity.dk) Date: 01-13-03 15:22 It's quite simple really. The labels are a bunch of amatures using their time traveling to india and smoking waterpipes instead of pushing sales :-) No money is used for promotion and PR. It's all used on the labels owners drug and travel habbits !! harsh? yes !....but true !" So make your own "professional" label, dude, and we'll see what happens. If you expect to make money with a psytrance label, good luck, but you'll may be very disappointed imho... I just think you don't know what you're talking about, sorry... No offense, dude, good luck again!

Guest Zero the Hero
Ok, EP, you're a well-knowned producer, you're in this music since a lot of years and you're probably right for some labels, but you can't tell that ALL the label owners are like that, it's simply not true. I personnally know a few of them, no matter who they are, they are NOT into drugs, and they spend their money in releasing music instead of spending it for travelling, so it hurts me when you put all the labels in the same bag... that's all dude It's a fact that psytrance doesn't sell at all, actually, creating a psytrance label is only the best way to loose money, it was not the case some years ago but things have slightly changed... Pushing sales, mmh... not so easy, in this time of mp3 and CD burners... and think about distributors, do you know how much they give to the label? don't you think that they're a little responsible of the bad sales, do you think this music is well distributed ??? Don't you think the retailers have their part of responsibility??? No, EP, this problem is not so simple.... I don't agree with you.
Guest .:::EP
Where did I say that all labels are like this? But you must admit that it's very very few labels that know what they are doing... Most labels are runned by people who don't know the first thing about marketing, PR ect. ect. And yes you would be surprised to see how many labels are runned by drugheads. I have seen it all and do not make this up!!! As for making money out of psy...it's another issue....The lack of money made in this scene is mainely because of 2 factors.... 1. Lack of professionalism at the labels who have no fundings, no imployees with the right knowledge about the market factors, marketing/PR and they use small lowcost distributors that rarely know how to cover their own home market not to mention the world. 2. Mp3 and CD-R copying/downloading. So yes of course there are some good labels that do a good effort out there. The sad thing is that they can be counted on one hand ! As for me starting my own label.... Why should I? Don't I have the right as an artist to demand that the labels I sign up with keep their words and do the job the promise me they can do? I have meet so many labels (even the so-called BIG established labels) that tell me they can do this and that and that they have an excelent distribution and that they use so and so much money for promition but when it come to the reality they can't do shit !!! When you call them they are not in because they are our traveling or simply just do not bother to pick up the telephone.... Now that's what i call unprofessional !!! You may not like that I critisise the labels but they could do a lot better.... believe me!!! And it is not my job to start a label...my job is to make music!!!!!! But yes i will release my own music in the future unless I find a label that live up to their fine promises....
Guest Zero
I can't barely count more than on one hand anyway, so... ;-)
