Ormion
Best when you just start it. You know, when you don't know exactly where are you going or what kind of synth you're gonna use, how the melodies will be, it's really exciting! When you create music out of nowhere. Worst...well the final mastering Also when you have almost finish your track, but you must add some more elements, but you're afraid you're gonna ruin it. Also when after hours and hours of work you just realise that the track sucks and you completelly delete it. Yours?
Jikkenteki
Best: The happy moment where you stumble across the perfect part that energizes the track and you just have to sit and listen to it looped for several minutes while you groove to it. Worst: Two for me, the first is usually simply getting the motivation to sit down and turn the computer on. The second is having some idea for a part in your head, sitting down and working on it for two or three hours only to take a break, come back and realize it just isn't working. The plus side for me of this part of the process is that after deleting said part, my mind is cleared of any preconceived ideas and the parts that fall under the "best" catagory usually come out soon after. Otto Matta
Best: The happy moment where you stumble across the perfect part that energizes the track and you just have to sit and listen to it looped for several minutes while you groove to it.Ha. Me too. I find I really have to be careful with this, though, because if I listen to my stuff too many times I lose perspective on it and feel the need to add more elements to make it interesting, when more elements may not be the best thing for the track. Worst: I really don't like the final polishing mix work where the process swings rapidly from creative to technical. I also don't like when one day I'm totally excited about a track, and then the next day I'm in a bad mood, maybe I'm tired and/or hungry, and the track sounds like crap. Veracohr
The best part is when I get that burst of creative energy at or near the beginning of writing a song, and it all just seems to flow from me of its own accord. The worst part is a few weeks/months down the line, when my wonderful, singular vision has gone completely cockeyed; the song has gone down a completely different path than the one it started on, I'm hopelessly lost, and I begin to have a gnawing suspicion that aliens have been secretly changing my song while I'm at work. Otto Matta
Another great moment: Sending a track off to a collaborator and getting back a totally expanded, awesome new version. This happened to me once, with auryn here at Psynews. Another bad moment: Lending a track out for a remix and having the result be totally awful. Symphoid
Ha. Me too. I find I really have to be careful with this, though, because if I listen to my stuff too many times I lose perspective on it and feel the need to add more elements to make it interesting, when more elements may not be the best thing for the track. I do this waaaaay too often. I think that's when my composer's block kicks in. The emotion that I felt at it's conception stagnates and I want to return to that point. While attempting to do so, I tend to lose focus and go off on nonsensical tangents. That's when the track festers away on my harddrive. So, I guess this is one of the worst moments in my track-writing. The best moments are when I don't realize I am even writing something until I'm completely exhausted. I love those mornings where you start up your track, listen to it's entirety, and completely love what you created.
Otto Matta
I do this waaaaay too often.Me too. Pretty much every time, actually, even if I tell myself going into it NOT to do that. The best moments are when I don't realize I am even writing something until I'm completely exhausted. I love those mornings where you start up your track, listen to it's entirety, and completely love what you created.Yes. That's a good one. Malevol3nt
Great moments? When I load up a synth for a new project, play with it, effectize it a bit if needed, and it sounds perfect From then on I build up more melodies but that's just the beginning of an adventure really. I never know what ideas mite pop in my head, i surprise myself on each project Bad momments? The usual pc not working issue that I have lately, which disables me from making music untill I buy a new set of audio hardware which is going to cost me alot of work time. I know I will thank myself later for buying these things, but everything else I need in life other than the stuff for my studio is on a big hold right now. Like my driverse licence for example. And I'm not the type of guy that likes waiting :/
