blah blah

blah

well goatrance is the typical goa sound like for example hallucinogen and commercial trance is band like gms

no kidding! gms might be commercial but not THAT mush they are still playin "psychedelic" or "goa" trance i could say..

commercial trance is stuff like what global underground djs play (like oakenfold) and anything trancey of even lower quality (like ibiza summer hits number 2789, etc)... as i see it, commercial trance differs from goa in the following 2 ways: 1. it is more commercial and 2. it is made for people who like going to pubs and listening to kylie minogue but sometimes drop an e and go dancing for the fun of it...

i am sorry for the tiring post - i am so stoned...

Now GMS is not commercial. Try going to a regular record store like Tower Records in LA and ask one of the employees if they've ever heard of the Growling Mad Scientists. The face they'll make when you say that is completely worth the test. Then, ask if they've heard of Paul Oakenfold or Sasha and Digweed. That's the difference between Goa and Commercial.

Hi all

I'd say that the definitions may well differ a lot from person to person so the best is to find your own opinion on it. As a lead though I'd say that undeground trance is either too repetitive or twisted for your normal UK clubber who prefers big soundscapes and big breaks where they can all sway together ... not sure that's the best description either .... as for the things said on GMS .... it's not because the emplyees of Tower records don't know the name of an artist that the music can be defined as commercial or not .... it is the music the artist make that should be judged.

take care

Peter

GMS are not commercial in my eyes. Though they are quite popular with some non-psy dj's interested in experimenting eg. some hardhouse / underground trance / acid techno dj's.

Yahel are commercial in my eyes. You can get yahel tracks on Paul Oakenfold cd's & DJ Tiesto Cd's. So I guess that makes them commercial.

if you release 3 albums in one year you are commercial...

anyway i only joked about gms - if you havent already catched it : gms are the focus of many many jokes around the psy community..

their music maybe not be as a genre commercial (its goatrance) but as a band they ARE commercial -nothing wrong with that of course- i mean they focus more in quantity than in quality IMO... maybe thats why the 3rd member of gms left the band.. who knows?

an example of non-commercial is ollie olsen

yup your best definition would be somewhere along the lines that goa is far more epic and complicated, designed to trip away on (and this tripping doesn't has to be on drugs!!).

where as commercial trance is less complicated and follows more regular lines, there won't be any surpises in the tracks because they are designed to create a certain flow in which the listners can dance for hours without having to bother with change in music.

of course this is a terribly subjective point of view from a person that loves goa and doesn't even remotly like commercial so your own ear would be the best judge.

Comercial trance i think is like English trance....ibiza kinda style.....like sascha, paul okenfold.....and all those tunes with ladies singing about their heros in a club and blah, blah, blah....

Goa Trance, that has developed into Psytrance, Progressive Trance, Melodic Trance, Minimal Trance, is a totally different music genre from Comercial trance. First, it isnt comercial :))......its not made to play in all clubs in the world, in all the tvs, and not to play in all the radios.....its much more of an underground music, much much less money involved, totally different musical aims........comercial trance sends you vibes like clubbing....drinking...women hunt....all that city night club thing......goatrance sends you vibes like...free your mind, forget whats traditional and whats politically correct, go with your conscience, peace, love, union and respect.

First of all, GMS is not goa in my opinion! when its goa, it has to have som sounds from the goa-culture! For example, Sheyba - ganesh

Commercial trance is Tiesto, Ferry Corsten, Armin Van Buuren and so on...

To tired to write moore details!
