I'm pretty sure, like always, it'll need editing, but I was hoping to get some feedback before I really fine tune it. It's always helpful. Keep in mind that my intent was to keep things raw and simple/stylized, but not so raw that it sounds like a bad recording. It's a reaction against the newer music that's been coming out loud as hell and, to tell the truth, plastic and metal. Whereas I wouldn't mind my stuff sounding a little more like wood and marble and glass and a little bit of fire and maybe some hot 70s chicks on a runway (maybe I'm getting old). So let me know how far off I am, and if you think, after a listen or two, that it needs more compression and clarity. And of course whatever else you feel like adding. Always appreciated. It has a very nostalgic feeling, like someone driving to some old neighbourhoods at midnight... Seriously! The production is raw as you said and sounds more than ok to me. Who cares about compression after all when the music is good? Maybe you must find a way to release your stuff. That's the response I was hoping for (not that bad stuff isn't helpful). Thanks, Ormion. I've actually made it a New Year's resolution to release an EP this year. Thanks, fluff! I actually have that sound going off and on throughout the track. I suspect I need to make the treble a bit crisper maybe. I've been tempted to compress a bunch of the highs but not the lows, which goes against what I've been taught (the religion as I perceive it, simplistically, is to compress the lows and pan the highs), but maybe it'll work. By the way, I listened to your latest track a week or two ago and liked it, but I'm going to have to listen to it a couple more times to give you good feedback. I appreciate the input. It starts off so dark and playful with such great chord structure. You put in a lot of great sounds from the wah-ki-cha guitar at 2:10 to the quirkiness of the bouncing synth. If Danny Elfman were to create electronic tracks I think they'd sound somewhat like this. When the vibe lightens at 3:06 I swear this sounds like something I'd write. It's so bittersweet here and gives me an awesomely warm feeling. Concerning the mix quality, I have zero qualms. I believe you have a signature sound that I can identify quite easily Damn, I'm really loving your music, Per. The "wah-ki-cha" sound was actually derived from bongos - a lesson in how writing music, at least to me, is just facilitating what the music wants to be. And yeah, man, we have a lot in common, musically. We should be on the same label. And hopefully this long-ish fade-out is more to your liking. The name is from a description of karma I ran across a couple years back, about how the universe can be viewed as a chandelier, about how light travels through it, reflects, refracts, and ultimately comes back to the light source. I initially wanted to call it "Indra's Net", but I discovered Shakta had already claimed that one. I really should have named it Android Fashion Show, because that's what I was thinking much of the time. Echoes of Vince (as well as maybe Chris, I don't know) Clarke & Erasure, the Specials (for some reason it reminds me of Ghost Town), Tomcraft, console space-shooter games from the early 80s, Japan around Gentlemen Take Polaroids... I really like the way you've used stacatto vs. legato to introduce new sections... the panning on the fuzzy bassline is either really brave or stupid but really works very well. The bitcrush feel is a bit overdone for my personal taste but the track works excellently as a unit - every aspect complements every other. The melodies in the second half lift it up so much, and I agree with Billy they add a distinct emotional warmth to the track - very Boards of Canada! Love the chord sequences; the minor/major transition between the 2nd and 3rd chords just makes me want to hear it again and again, and the on-beat cymbals are a refreshing change to boom-tss-boom-tss. The only real negative thing I would say about the production is that the kickdrum is really really heavy in the bottom end but that shouldn't be difficult to sort out in post production Great stuff man. Yeah, man, the kickdrum issue is probably my worst habit at this point, and I fall for it every time. I'm trying to make a really fat, thumpy kick, but I always go overboard. I'm assuming it's a compression issue I don't know about yet. Or an EQ thing. Or both. Honestly, I want a kick sound like those big hip hop kicks, which I think go really nicely with a melodic structure on top. really really cool track! loved every second of it.. cheers klaus Thanks, klaus!
