Where is psy-trance headed?

Where is the psy-trance scene headed? Here are a few specific questions for us to discuss...

1. What direction is the music going? More minimalistic? More Psychotic? More commercial?

2. Which newer artists are going to rule the scene?

3. Which legendary artists are going fizzle out?

4. How close is the scene to becoming discovered by mass audiences rather than the underground...

5. What new innovations do you think artists will impliment in there tracks and albums?

6. Any other comments about Psy-Trances future?

1). History of trance has shown that it fragments the bigger it gets, however i think the emotive (melodic) elements have the biggest potential.

2) Astrix, Cosma, Sub6

3) Astral Projection, X-Dream.

4) Its not pop music, and it never will be.

5) By its nature its never predictable, but the production will always get better.

6) The Future is Bright, the future is positive!

I stopped following trends about a year ago... it seemed like the big bread psy was all washed up (still sounds that way if you ask me)... but thats nothing worrying, thats how music is sometimes. There's so much goodness to find on the FRINGE that I would never worry in a million years... there will always be good music! Try out those Finnish maniacs - its not ALL spugeblob squarebeats ;)

As for the future... lets just hope its diverse enough to keep everyone interested! And, naturally, lets hope the positive philosophies remain everyone's junction-point... we might never all agree on music but the movement is still in fine shape when everyone is at peace and is promoting goodness in their own lives...

Progressive house-listen to the new electronic high vol 3. Koxbox, Antidote, Hallucinogen are all sounding very very much like Progressive house. suppose it had to happen, 10 years of selling 1000 units something had to give and people started trying to make money. Thank god for Acidance records.

who gives a crap about electronic high....and the hallucinogen was just a rmx....not an original hallucinogen track...

1. it will go all friggin directions.....

2. won´t even guess....always coming good new artists

3. gms for sure if they keep that crap up.....and all others that use the same formula for 4 years in a row....

4. as long as we keep it real psychedelic (which thsese gms wannabees aren´t) it´ll be underground couse people´s minds are not used to anything out of the ordinary....

5. already being made everyday in the finnish scene....any kind of impliments...

6. it will never die!

Hehe, of course it'll stay underground as long as we believe itis hehe, if ind the whole 'underground' thing to be so funny, who gives a f**king sh*t if it is popular or not?? I guess everybody wants to be cool and say 'I listen to psytrance, it is so wicked and underground' when if you ask any person who has listened to electronic music they'll have heard of, if not listened to, psytrance, god, HMV and Virgin Records stores sell heaps of 'underground' trance, so if it isn't 'overground' yet let me know when it is, wake up and grow up, the whole underground thing is a load of B.S!! IO can walk into my local jeans shop and see the most undergound psy doof flyers in a pile, it is not undergorund anymore, it was underground like 5 years ago, WAKE UP!!

Mass Market has NOT grasped this scene yet...I still don't see major amounts of Psy-Trance availabe in major music store....yes I see some givens like Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection, Hallucinogen but there's really no places to find the cd's except for online...

It's A LOT easier to find albums (w/ orginal material) by ATB, DJ Encore, Ian Van Dahl, Paul Van Dyke, Sasha, Paul Oakenfold, Lasgo, Moby, Fatboy Slim and other very popular trance acts than it is to find an album from any psy-trance artist even Infected, Astral and Hallucinogen....

The psy-scene has not gotten recognized and grasped by mass market yet. Maybe in some parts of the world like Israel, India, England...etc. But you don't exactly hear a lot psy-trance being played in favor over club anthems and trance spun by DJ's like Tiesto and Oakey.

The scene is still underground, while people might have heard about this style it hasn't been taken over by the masses....psy-trance artists aren't raking in millions like todays popular trance producers...why? Because the scene has not been grasped yet so people leave it alone hence leaving it to a smaller audience.....

Large Audience = Commercial

Small Audience = Underground

Thats how I look at it....we all have different views though...

I agree with sienis, especially his answer to questions one, three and four ;-) And as for the progressive house thing, don't you think it's more a question prog house beginning to sound like psy trance rather than the other way around ? I think so :)

In Toronto we have the Om festival it is really cool because it is run by 100% volunteers and you can apply to help buy setting up your own theme tents for people to chill out in . It is a very communal psychadelic environment and there is free food for everyone and there is probably like 4500 people ohh I can't wait till summer it's like -30 degrees right now thats just to cold..

P.s. is there anyone here from Canada and going to Om this year.

Peace

Yeah but having 10,000 people at a festival depends on which artist's are spinning and where you are....like I said the psy-scene is much larger than in it in other parts.....as a whole the audience is smaller

I know it was crazy when I moved to Mexico for a while in 2000 I didn't expect everyone there to be into PSy trance because where I lived most people listened to jungle and techno and the psy scene has always been underground compared to the huge jungle raves that used to happen all the time back in Toronto then. can't remember what the party was called that I went to there but it was huge and in the mountains out just outside of where I lived at the time in Mexico city. But the weird thing is most of the people there i met have never even heard of any other music styles but I schoold them on some drumnbass at a party in this rented out Italien resteraunt. One of my friends rodrigo did a live pa thing up stairs and I spun and hour in half set of pure dakside ragga jungle which I think was the first time any them had heard it but they loved the shit so it was kind of cool being a jungle pioneer there.

1. elodic and minimalistic will find eachother in the middle. Some people will go commercial, some will stay underground.

2. Which newer artists are going to rule the scene? Psycraft, Misted Muppets

3. Etnica but not Pleiadians, Astral Projection, ..

4. Not near at all, masses in general don't like short kicks, weird breaks and long really ''evolving'' tracks.

5. What new innovations do you think artists will impliment in there tracks and albums? More percussional tricks, use of new flanger stuffs, more weird gating effects, more traditional instruments

6. Its gonna rawk!

psy shaman - have you dropped by ektoplazm.com ?

OM is pretty good but its not a psytrance festival... take last year for example - there was no dedicated stage for it... and only like 4 acts playing it throughout the weekend. this year it could be good or bad, we'll find out soon i guess... i just know a lot of crews have put in proposals for a psy stage, so its just a matter of what they go for. OM is all about the hippie house beats nowadays... or so it seems. I hope there's more trance - I don't understand a festival without trance...

But this year is looking good for toronto :) tap in to our network!

the minimalistic wave came, and with it came the tech-trance.

back in the days we had beautiful melodies with quite poor sounding bass and snares.

with the minimalism people developed their skills and really focused to develop and make innovative percussionwork and find new unique sounds and gfx and so on..

so, as some intelligent guys on this board said, the time might come when the gold era of goa and fat futuristic beats get blended together into something brilliant :G

despite the fact that many of us love the techy vibes, we wouldnt say no to new brilliant morning songs.

in the 'near' future, lets say 2 or 3 years, the tech-trance will be even more diverse than many of us in the beginning thought possible.

and the artists tend to surprie us all the time. thats whats so great with this genre and subgenres; it developes (well.. not rikam and bansi :I ) itself into the new fantastic shapes.

nåja. lär er svenska. engelska suger :[
