CyclotronMajesty
I love their new album Earthshine. But I really liked their ambient stuff more. It was more powerful. I am glad they expressed that album and made a clearly very deep and uplifting sound. But I felt that even though it is one of a kind. I think their ambient says even more. I actually think solar fields is one of the best ambient acts around. The guy has an ability to do trance, but somehow trance is limiting. Either one he does I am happy. But what I think would be really nice is to see an album with both trance and ambient worked into each other. That I think is the highest of the brows. Of course nobody does that very often. But when it is done it is really unforgettable if done well. I can remember a paul oakenfold mix... ah but I digress.
abasio
I think that is what Earthshine sounds like. Like trance mixed with ambient. Sure each track is upbeat but they all have that special solar fields ambience that makes his music so intoxicating! I do prefer his ambient stuff but his trance is top drawer also. My favourite albums in order Extended Leaving Home EarthShine Blue Moon Station Reflective Frequencies
RTP
I definitely agree with the fact that Earthshine is not as good as Magnus' ambient works. The next album will be ambient again anyway, don't worry But Earthshine sounding like trance mixed with ambient? I don't think so, I think it's more or less pure scando trance... Drosophila
I find Earthshine quite boring to be honest... but lately the only prog that can get me a bit on the toes are Sensient... he somehow manage to pull it of. And I love his ambient music... Extended is one of the best Albums released on Ultimae if u ask me!
Melancholyman
He is a genius, when I was tripping to Leaving home and Extended I got visions, and experienced things I never thought possible. Truly truly he's music is really revolutionary. Now that RTP mentioned about his next album, I am already acing for it! After that trip I sent him an email telling how much I adored his music. And that it is a shame that the Nobel Prize doesn't cover music, I mean if literature is covered why not music. And he has my vote for the prize! I think I have to try tripping to Solar Fields on Ayahuasca...
FTP
I don't think Eartshine is just average trance. I was really curious how He would manage such a switch in direction and was amazed of the unique sound. So I would definitely like to see more of the trance stuff from him, beside the ambient of course
CyclotronMajesty
Reflexive Frequencies was the most memorable albums for me most unique experiences. But Extended and Leaving Home I think were better
Sawfly
My favourite albums in order Extended Leaving Home EarthShine Blue Moon Station Reflective Frequencies We seem to have a very similar taste when it comes to SF, that's the exact order I like 'em too

Im not gonna mention any group or name....LOLL (still bitter and dark inside), but the first word in this sentence gave them away hehe... abasio
But Earthshine sounding like trance mixed with ambient? It really adds a journey feel to the music that I think a lot of prog lacks! I'm also very happy that Solar Fields just keeps pushing the boat & keeping the quality level so high

I'm also very happy that Solar Fields just keeps pushing the boat & keeping the quality level so high Ah, I kinda know what you mean. This "ambient behind" kind of stuff I, however, am recognising this in more or less every "scando trance" type of track from many other artists aswell (at least in the panoramic ones - the panoramic ones are characteristic scando trance for me). That's the reason why I say Earthshine doesn't sound so different, hehe. It's also the reason why I like this type of trance so much ... because when you listen you can mostly recognise a sort of ambience behind - a calm, warm synth line that plays a melody which on its own could be included in an ambient track more or less right away. I'm glad that Earthshine has it aswell, that's just what makes it even more scando trance like
