pr0fane
Artist: Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir Title: Shnorkel Label: eVapour8 Format: 12"/Digital Released: April 2008 Review: The full on scene has recently spawned a lot of new techno/tech house talents. One of the first to make the change was Freakulizer who is now also known as Khainz and other artists who have made the change include Wrecked Machines, now a part of Velkro and Hujaboy, now known as Jab. Former Domestic member Miki Litvak was one of the first to make the change though with his involvement in Elegant Universe, and on "Shnorkel" he is back with his old partner in crime Ido Ophir, who is now the single member of Domestic. "Shnorkel" is the first release from eVapour8 - the new tech house/techno sidelabel for Vapour Records, run by one of Australia's finest DJ's, Kasey Taylor. 01. Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir - Shnorkel [127 BPM] The original mix is written by the two original members of Domestic, Miki Litvak and Ido Ophir from Israel, and it's one badass dancefloor tune. It's very energetic and raw with some truly amazing breakdowns and a bass that is mean as hell. Major major dancefloor potential in this tune, and one we'll all hear a lot this summer. 02. Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir - Shnorkel (Dousk Remix) [127 BPM] Greeces best export, Dousk. has been a favourite of mine for some years, with memorable releases on labels like Vapour, Klik, Bedrock, Baroque, Audio Therapy and Lost Language, and his interpretation of the already stunning original is even better. It's not quite as raw as the original, and even though it's a bit more clean and optimistic with some extra added pads, it's still very energetic and dancefloor minded. Another possible summer-hit. 03. Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir - Shnorkel (Fiord Remix) [127 BPM] Antix' sideproject Fiord is up next with their remix, and it almost lives up to the high quality of the first two mixes. I especially like the progression in this version, where it flawlessly moves from trendy, laidback tech house to more banging big-room techno towards the end. One of the best tracks coming from the Strom brothers' studio in quite a while. 04. Miki Litvak & Ido Ophir - Shnorkel (Jamie Stevens Tech Dub) [127 BPM] Jamie Stevens is left with almost impossible task to live up to the first three mixes, and he does a fairly good job. The Aussie producer of Infusion fame keeps some of the dirty, techy edge from the original, but in a much more stripped-down, club-friendly kind of way. The least impressive of the three mixes, but a good tune in its own right. Bottom line: Well, I can hardly imagine a better release for Kasey Taylor to start out his new label eVapour8 - the original is a big, big tune certainly not for the faint-hearted, and all three mixes have high quality as well, with Dousk and Fiords versions standing out. If you're into the techno/tech house sound, this release is one of the must-haves of the season. Favourites: 1 (!!), 2 (!!), 3.
