rino
V/A Peace therapy 2 sounds like something you'd like for real Shulman perhaps. V/A Vajra is one I vaguely remember having tunes you ought to like, as well as Cell's "Phonic peace". Try some of those. Happy hunting! But it just beats me why are you asking for ambient recommendations if you don't even know what it is?
asura
+2. I've always though "ambient" should mean without a beat as the other genres already take care of that. In this case I don't like any ambient music I've heard (of a couple CDs only ). Out of curiosity how would someone define "Chronos - Steps To The Great Knowledge"? I want more of whatever type this is, though I suspect it should be defined as downtempo goa trance or something. Fucking subgenres eh. Track from Chronos... downtempo goa trance? Downtempo psybreaks? To me "downtempo" should be an adjective not it's own subgenre. It depends on the track u are listening to. Ambient is no more the proper term to describe Asura music for example (I can only speak about what I know best ) . And if you listen to Galaxies part one for example (rather spacey new age) it has nothing to do compare to Life² (4/4 with hard kick and acid bassline)? or Lost Eden (World electro) or Golgotha (ethnic classical fusion) or Back to light (Downtempo psybreaks ??? as you said). In all case, my music is always changing in its moods and style, I think you shouldn't take it as an example for a genre. Definitly. And I think it"s the case for (many?) other artists in this scene. I can't help but think that Charles is a very emotional guy
visine
The father of the first definition of ambient Brian Eno said it like this: "Ambient Music must be able to accommodate many levels of listening attention without enforcing one in particular; it must be as ignorable as it is interesting." So in general it is "beatless" smooth textured soundscapes.... and people could probably argue for hours what ambient actually is but, I think that would be my short definition! Indeet, the original defnition of Ambient was actually Yawnbient.

Drosophila
It's funny how people always recommend the same kind of psy-ambient and then try to define ambient as well. http://www.discogs.com/release/61 actual ambient http://www.discogs.com/release/217604 mint highly emotional industrial ambient http://www.discogs.com/release/6141 more mint ambient,a bit dark and chaotic If its me and Otto u r referring to, I just wanna point out that we merely figured that sunwolf does not like ambient... Because I got a bit confused from the topic title, since it asks for ambient recommendations... so the recommendations were non-ambient'ish psychill/downbeat (or what ever u want to call it)... @sunwolf: did u hear the track SiebZehn - Bongalore And Beyond on suntrip's Opus Iridium (the downtempo CD)??? I think its exactly the style u were looking for, or?!

sunwolf
I have Opus Iridium and yea the 2nd CD is nice... kind of exactly what I'm looking for, and also labeled ambient on discogs. As for the SiebZehn track, not my favorite... minimalistic sort of sound not very interesting. Thanks for all these suggestions will take me awhile to listen to them all.
