longloststar
To me the five first songs of The Orb - Orbus Terrarum are unbeaten in the richness of their soundscapes. I love how mostly the melodies are irrelevant or just small pieces of the ambient, and the music never falls in the trap of just stacking pads and drones. When I compare the album to other ambient/chillout pieces they always fall short in their lack of depth and layerdness (lets say thats a word). I would love to have my opinions questioned however. Which music, in the category of ambient and chillout do you feel has the richest soundscape? Interpret the question as you wish.
Anoebis
Carbon Based Lifeforms (second album) wins for me, their beatless tracks have such a liquid, deep emotional soundscape that is beyond words

Go-Goa Trancer
For me it seems like FSOL - Lifeforms. I think they created a sonic universe that lives and evolve!
