crazybaldhead
One of the highlights from Paddy's new album, Kohatu, is available to download from either of these places: http://www.myspace.com/paddyfree http://www.last.fm/music/Paddy+Free/Kareka...e+Whenua/Kohatu http://www.globalnoize.blogspot.com/ A brief desciption from Paddy: KOHATU is the Maori word for stone or rock. It's a love song! Although one that speaks of a fair amount of pain as well... The song is based on a story from the local Maori of the Waitakere region, about 2 forbidden lovers who seek refuge a cave behind a waterfall. They hide from their pursuers (who are from different Tribes, of course, in the best Romeo and Juliet tradition...) for so long, and the waterfall thunders so loudly, that when they emerge they are deaf. This song is from the woman's perspective, singing of her love for her man. KOHATU was originally part of a live multi-media performance beneath the natural monolith, Lion Rock, at Piha Beach, west of Auckland, NZ. The lyrics were written by my wife, Louise Potiki Bryant, and vocalist Waimihi Hotere.
