Additionnal engineering by Joshud @Jocid studio. The album was mastered by Tim Schuldt @4cn studios Forest Fusion was recorded in single jamsession conferring all its natural energy  Who's Ozmali ? => Few infos about the artist, except he's from Amsterdam & he's really calling Steven Hekkeleheikever. Indeed Ozmali is a multi talented artist : producer, live act, dj & deco artist. His musical style is Forest Psychedelik which means happy, colourfull & psychedelik How about Ozmali Records ? => As a whole complete thing, let's say it's quite normal that Ozmali Records pop up from Ozmali's brain. Forest Fusion , what kind of musical trip ? => Night Travelling, We've got an happy & bouncing tune in guise of opening for the album. There's some soft tones typical for rocking babies (this kinda of "carillon" also appears on track 8. Quite important to notice in the Ozmali's work, it's the important use of many samples: animals, movies, music, cries etc.. Serafijn Dansen Verboden => The bouncy side continues, this time with less melody than previously, the focus is based on the psychedelik soundscape. With some patience you'll get the mischievous melody. XXX => Interesting construction with a little by little evolution to its climax. The colouration is slightly colder & more dedicated for the night time. In terms of emotion, it reminds me something dancefloor, very living, intense & paradox, cold such as "Element - Coldcut", the psychedelik dimension added. Martial Arts => The tones are harsher, sharp here. It's sounding repetitive, indeed too much for me, that's a pity :/ My main worry comes from the sounds, i don't find them particularly entertaining or easy to dig. The samples employed for the transition with next track are really fucking good & funny, i don't spoil more :posford: Helios Rmx =>There are Funny old school music samples used which perfectly matches, integrates the tune, there's a special spirit that reminds me here some quite dancefloor &/or experimental productions from Eat Static (respectively City of Sin & Critical Mass). Dancing with Daemons => The construction is common from Parvati's productions alike which means not very melodic, more based on a selection of sounds with appropriated effects, last but not least, a preponderant role of the bassline all along. Petite Chevre => Ozmali offers a very atmospheric production based on a modified subtle loop of anthem from "Art of Trance - Kaleidoscope", at the end (7"24) Ozmali places also a twisted sample of kinda Beach Boys sound, once again funny. Psiegedelies Kunstenaar => In the weirdo' meter, we're reaching the highest level of the album (especially for the congas break around 4"00), the soundscape is totally twisted, mad & falsely uncontrolled of course . Many samples are used here conferring the tune its thickness. Vaxac Kawak => We keep going with the same bassline as in previous track but up tuned, btw it's the whole song that results faster & punchier. Furthermore the global feeling is completely hypnotic. Kata Rei => For the final, Ozmali has cooked a cinematographic influenced tune due to the massive presence of a long movie's music sample. That's a quite big change in term of musical emotion delivered, this one tends to be more oniric, magical nevertheless he keeps a fat psychedelik output through massive effects on bleeps, sweeps & creeps Sum up => There's an important point, i'd like to mention here: the order of the track listing. I advice to listen in the predefined order of the album due to a very slight mix between end & beginning of tracks. As a matter of optimized enjoyment, respecting this frame will increase your perception for the first listens. Of course after, free & up to everybody to choose & listen the tracks in any free order . I made a quote-reference from a "retired" psy artist from the scene in my last description , that's not fortuitous : I consider Ozmali as a respectful successor of Weirdo Beardo, the style is not exactly the same but i've got the same nice & positive feelings while listening to their happy psychedelik & quite melodic colourful productions . I just wish Ozmali to release some other inspired albums, as this debut is refreshing enough to hit the scene & make a name decently rated. ocelot
nice to see a review of this here. i rather like stephens music. innovative- and sometimes the price you pay for innovation is occasional parts i dont like i will happily eat up this music including the parts i dont like versus the same-same-humdrum-nothing-wrong-but-nothing-right music. this is very NON-generic stuff. and very fun. psytones
Ozmali - Forest Fusion (Ozmali Records) 2009 (OZMALICD01) 01. Night.Travelling 8:26 02. Serafijn.Dansen.Verboden 4:25 03. XXX 3:59 04. Martial.Arts 5:50 05. Helios.Rmx 5:48 06. Dancing.with.Daemons 8:44 07. Petite.Chevre 7:40 08. Psiegedelies.Kunstenaar 7:35 09. Vaxac.Kawak 6:22 10. Kata.Rei 7:38 (T1) In a forest far away close enough to be seen with eyes closed, a man calls on mysterious subtle forest sounds and in total peace as they pass your feet in a soft and delightful sluggish manner. The tempo is for comfort, and the background score feels shushed and well balanced to compliment the beautiful melody work. (T2) Beats gain some weight and insects please your ears to bring giggles and smiles of awe and amazement. The birds call upon the aliens for landing and the deep dripping drops flow through caves of clean and moist darkness to create the mystery we all depend on. A voice speaks of strange tokens of orgasmic notions while the forest becomes alive in all its glory and pride with wind and falling nuts. (T3) A funny jumping elf steps in awkwardly trying to solve a puzzle he set up for himself. For who is to say self made puzzles are easy to solve when wooden sprinkles are flowing in the stream of minor unstable confusion with high technological electric dust floating in the fuzzy air? (T4) Melodies starts to play with the mind, the mood is prankster like while being light on tippy-toes, dancing around in a space ballet of decibels and door cranks. Monkeys scream their laughter to lighten the strange static mood. (T5) The ding and dongs roughen the vibe by implanting heavier beats that walk like elephants on a warrior path of wisdom and affirmatives, while squeaking birds and snakes joins their trail to achieve higher knowledge of the jungle they breathe. Flutes play by the insects' sign and the call of Shiva begins to melt. The mood creeps on strange walls while the elephants raise their trunks to signal Kali of their presence. Where "you and I are going to spend the rest of our life" (T6), so that the trippy patterns might appear in a holier temple of laser guns and female protection. The drift is steady and the ride is hefty, what one wants to expect is inside glass tubes and hermetic jars of stained smell and cool loops that takes you on a different ride that might shimmer your head slightly to the right. Crickets alerting of pleasant and strange moods while the effects trances the stomp in weirdness and comfort. (T7) The beat gets a gentle pat on its back to slow its confused pulse down to a centered stage and the rattling of the shore stones softly caresses your twinkling toes, while birds play their alien signalizing tunes to direct their flight into a star which can seem so far. Keep on pumping and stomping to reach that higher ritualistic dimension of Mother Nature! (T8) There isn't any bullshit left, they're fresh out of that ... The ultimate goal? Maybe world peace and love in tribal rhythms. (T9) Harsher times of splitting atoms has arrived, a craving for chocolate crickets to feed on the everlasting hope is swirling in a demented cloud. The sprinkling rain feels pleasant on the skin and the splashing on blushed cheeks feels like a fresh breeze sent to me by a computerized wizard from Amsterdam’dam’da’dam. (T10) As the tension again builds and creeps, a movie theme comes in to deliver a script on how to make the evil dead, and deranged tales of drum'n'roll inside the world of Cimmeria in some cosmic tones land us on planet bliss where one can sit down, relax and dry off sweat made through ritual dancing in the Ozmali forest. Recommendation: What is there to say? Ozmali as I’ve read is a duo team based live project from Holland with a reputation of really providing the dance floor with an experience out of these bushes. Only one of them is responsible for this mixedtogether’album release and it was released on the self titled ‘independent’ label also named Ozmali. They must really dig the word Ozmali. None the less!! This release is filled with strange jungle rhythms with tribal attractions and space like noise for the curious ones. This is an album that floats as one mixed DJ-set as it was recorded in a seamless mix, which gives it a lot of ‘right now and real’ character. Some feelings that the album comes off as a tad incomplete is present but not enough to shy away from its marbles. Regarding it being a mix-release, I think that Ozmali – Forest Fusion manages to give people a chance to play their favorite tracks on their own decks if that is their wish. If you're after some new blood that delivers trippy stuff between shaking trees and flowing bushes, you should defiantly check this one out because it delivers something special and psychedelic - that's for sure. In essence, it’s a trip worthy album:) Favoritt tracks: 1(!!), 2(!!), 3, 6(!), 7(!), 8, 10. Ormion
Nice, unique and fresh, but like I said before almost incomplete. The tracks have no intros or outros (well the cd is slightly mixed so maybe that's the reason), no real storytelling or twists and turns. The bass is nice and groovy, but after a while I was hungry for more. To be more specific all the tracks start interesting, but lead nowhere IMO. Still Ozmali has potential and I'm really curious for his future releases. The best are coming. Fav track Martial Arts. Trippy!

Yes kudos on that one Ormion, your post was in ma mind with agreement I've had it for a while and it's not the cd you might listen to every day, at least for me its a once in a while and certainly will be subject for entertainment if a special magical evening arrives. Maybe it will totally flip your world : I'm sure it will! .. Im not totally sure but there is something in the melodies that sort of is the main Ozmali touch (and melodies / emotions are hard to make for many, i have heard .. ) which i'm not enitirly in sync with, yet(?) though it does however feel in psync . else the album is f'ing amazing for it's entertainment value. for me these sorts of mushytellings with spaceships in jungles and what not they, the talanted artists creates out of their creative mindz are the fundation for the attraction towards weird psytrance .. i would hope to be able to catch Ozmali live some day, i'm sure their show(music) roxer harder (faster scoo .. ) Fragletrollet comes to mind though it has more of the intensity with amazing races and beats/basslines. And some dramatic scenes of total madmness in crazy, so much it becomes maybe too much. anyway, Ozmali and Fragletrollet are part of filling an important gap in the psychedelic trance market. viva la mexico!
