Isao
This was a very good post! However, regarding the naivety of psytrance crowd, I'll just tell you to accept the fact that most people really aren't very smart. It kinda becomes more obvious when they're trying, though, instead of just blindly following social order. Agree? Oh yeah, i agree with that. Same people, different education/environement, but same kind of ignorance at the end (note: this isn't an insult, i consider myself at least partly ignorant as well). It only got on my nerves because on one side the trance crowd is supposed to be very open minded, tolerant, etc, yet those same trancers (or maybe are they just trolls and the real trancers are more interesting than that, i wouldn't know) saying PLUR all the time are judging/criticizing/insulting anyone who doesn't share their view on the world, which are usually people living in "rich" countries. Sounds as stupid to me as those saying that ppl living in "poor" countries are all retarded and "inferior". Different part of the spectrum but same kind of ignorance really. Anyway.. moving on. If anything, i think the culture around Psytrance/Goa on a personal plan made me a bit more curious and interested into stuff that i didn't care or even know about before. Always thought spirituality was an illusion created by ppl in order to reassure themselves and have some answers to the existential questions. I always thought it was a form of ignorance, and still think that in most cases.. it is. Actually i still have the same opinion on religions, but i learned to distinguish them from spirituality. While i'm very materialistic and just can't believe (i want to know, not to believe) in anything that isn't proven to exist or that i didn't experience myself, i now think there might be something more to all those spiritual stuff than a "how-to behave" guide book conditioning ppl. I might also be more sensible to some ethical matters concerning nature and stuff, but that didn't really change anything in my lifestyle.. yet. The music in itself made me realize that electronic music had A LOT of potential, and could really be Music (the art).
exotic
What a nice thread! Where and what would i be without psytrance ? it really is a very easy question but the answer is so damn difficult, to think of all those moments that i have spent with psy on my own doing nothing but just dancing away immersed in the groove imagining myself floating away into the infinity of nothingness. would i call it waste of time ? yes and no. I think i share the same thoughts as GSH , i would have completed my math hons degree in time and would have got some killer work ex for an MBA abroad and in some way i do blame psy for setting me back a few years. but without it life would be so dull. Psychedelic made me question things that i would normally have never even thought about, maybe this was a direct result of the kind of friends i had at uni , my flatmates who were into philosophy and stuff. i was introduced to a new way of thinking and psy did play a major role in influencing that like thinking out of the box and stuff and questioning the very foundation on which reality is based. the hows and why's of everything. this couldn't have come about if i hadn't met the very people who i happened to meet when i was introduced to psytrance. so it all sorta panned out in a way that completely changed me as a person from what i was initially. I regret a few things but at the same time im happy i discovered this music. The key I feel is to find that balance which all of us are striving to achieve. exotic
This is intriguing. Care to tell more? +
exotic
What I do regret though is my ability to have such a non-complacently nature (not sure of the term, but I never get around to do stuff I know I need and want). If I had only kept going on my music production when I was 16, If only I had jumped on the Dj practice thing when I fell in love with this pie-dunkadunk mosakk and etc etc and so many etc's, I could have been where ever and whatever I wanted to be, damn lack of complacently hehe. Donno if pie is to blame for that though I couldnt quote a quote so i copy pasted from your post, pietones. i think what you mean is complacent and procrastinatory nature, and i can totally relate to what you're saying because i think all we trancers suffer from a similar bug in the system

exotic
yes, too much of it in the system to get rid off for another 20 years or so. but do not worry , shiva is with you!
RTP
I'd be one of them: I am not kidding Psy music practically saved me from becoming a chav. I went to commercial trance parties, dressed like these fuckers and with a mindset like these fuckers. It was just the right time that I found out about a "goa party" to be held in a venue that I knew (the funny thing: after that party there never was any psy again in that location ... but I didn't need a second call, I liked it so much at that little psy festy - so friendly people, so good smell (incense sticks), so good music, nobody beating you up if you bump into them, no chav chicks where you get your face polished by one sunburned musclepack if you look at them by accident ... very peaceful, friendly and good atmosphere). Afterwards I only went to psy parties anymore. Found the venue I still go to nowadays shortly afterwards, Koxbox playing live and I got instantly hooked. That sums it up in a nutshell. Did not touch trance again except when I got free admission by whatever means ... but I'm really dissatisfied what the trance scene has become ... last time I was seeing Paul Van Dyk I witnessed three fights and got my clothes soaked in beer because of one. So not even the free admission thing is a strong argument anymore...
Tatsu
Hard to say who I would be without psytrance. I've never really been normal anyway thanks to my hippie parents. I'm also not really in the scene. I listen to other music and most people I know are not psyheads either. I don't go to psytrance parties only and I also listen to other music. I still think the pie-thing had a big impact on my life. Besides the fact that my psycollection is emptying up an empty spot in me also the mind altering effect of the music, the scene and some drugs did me good. It's like some kind of second world that I can enter and forget about the boring everyday life. I couldn't name thing that gives me the same sensation so I think my life would for sure be more boring.

Malevol3nt
I would probably not stop listening to Death/Thrash Metal, and I would end up in a band or something. Altho I still ocasionally listen to Metal. But it's getting very rare these days.
Redington
It's funny to say this but, if it wasn't for World of Warcraft, I wouldn't know what the hell psytrance is or any of it. Yeah, I listened to some poppy trance stuff but that was it. I played WoW for about 4 years. Eventually I wound up in a guild where one of the guild officers listened to psytrance and would play it on ventrillo before or after raids and stuff like that. And since I'm usually open-minded about music, I would end up listening to him on there for a good amount of time. Asking him what he was playing and stuff. So around 2007 I did a google search for "dark goa" (because, at the time, my friend called it that even thought most of the stuff I remember him playing was really psytrance or just plain goatrance). I think psynews must have been one of the first hits that came up, it definitely must have been on the first page because I sometimes have a low attention span. Came here and the rest is history pretty much. If anyone remembers, I even made a thread asking for more "dark goa" artists back around September of 2007, so about 2 years ago. So what would I be without psytrance? Well, for one thing, I wouldn't know about Shpongle! God, I'm so glad my friend led me to here indirectly. Well, kind of kidding about the Shpongle thing. But seriously, I like to think I have variety of music and if it weren't for psytrance and close relatives, I probably would be a moron or something. I certainly would be less perceptive to music, no doubt about that.

ouroboros
hmmm......good question. i think in my case its a little bit more the other way 'round. i think i listen to psytrance because of who i am...im not so much who i am because i listen to psytrance. ive always been a little off (in comparison to most other people), ive always had somewhat different ideas about how things are...how the universe works and how we as individuals navigate through it. ive been listening to various forms of electronic music since the very early 80's, and when goa/psytrance came along it just hit a chord with me. has my involvement in the psy scene changed me as a person? perhaps...how so i dont think is quantifyable. all in all though everything we do changes us. we would all be verry different people if we had a different set of expieriences. its hard to say who i would be without psytrance...mainly because i feel that it was completely unavoidable. i am who i am...and eventualy the path i was on would have led me to psytrance anyway. it would be an entirely different question if i were to think of it terms of who would i be if there was no psytrance at all...instead of me just not listening to it. well obviously id still be me...but id probably feel as though there was something missing. id probably still be moshing it up in pits to hard industrial....oh wait...i do still do that, only now i get hit and knock the shit out of people with a silly grin on my face instead of a scowl. hhhmm.....i think that last part was important somehow. p(sy)ayam
since i was a kid i never liked what everyone else liked. i always thought in any randomly chosen group of people there are more stupid ones than wise ones, so it never made any sense to me to follow the popular trend. that led me to metal music when i was in elementary school (even back then i never liked Metallica that much mostly because everyone else liked them!!!). i had the same attitude towards anything else, movies, books, science, food, ... this attitude made me explore many different genres including psytrance. and these days i don't really listen to psytrance that much. so i guess without psytrance i would have explored other genres but the thing is psy music in general kindda encapsulates my emotions. psy being psy- metal, rock, trance, ambient or whatever else. so without that i probably would have been a movie addict now watching random self produced documentaries and shorts!!! ouroboros
Not sure if I understood, they hit you because you grin ? lol....no. im talking about my own attitude. when i used to go into mosh pits i was all about being tough and mean and hitting people. now i go into mosh pits with a smile on my face...i love the feeling of hitting other people and being hit...only now its not because im trying to be tough...or hurt people. its because i feel that physical connection. were all just specs floating in the universe colliding for a moment and then careening off in different directions....were all seperate individuals...but connected as an entity that is this swirling mosh pit of a universe. i mosh now because i like that feeling of closeness as opposed to before where i used mosh because i liked that feeling of confrontation. does that make sense? needle ninja
From the time I discovered Eat Static in the mid 90's onward, psytrance has improved my spirits, given me something to think about, further alienated me from my neighbors, and improved my view of psychedelic music generally. I have also had a great time here on psynews laughing at/with people from around the world which, in my opinion, is priceless.
FTP
Psynews was the second and last forum i become active. First was major home newspapers designated for driving politicians insane and make theirs brains implode. A lot of work there, since many insane politics, but still alive. Psynews was very funny with a lot of potential to become a true NETWORK with tremendous power and will. Now we have ISRAETRANCE 2 and only reason I stayed is that few active buddies still wandering around are just too precious, but that can be handle other way. Last 12 months of daily logging was a waste of time, it was more nostalgy of refreshing offtopic button than wanders of what's new in Psytrance? (I am so disgusted that I can't even read the wanted reviews I don't want this psynews, it sucks so much and I hate it. Do you know how much pain in the ass is to find free porn through GOOGLE. And the reason is because France is retarded. Since the French revolution the world is going downhill and every French idea is bullcrap. Yeah, Yeah We have art and culture.. Where is Jaia, where is Toi Doi??? France and now I have to say that even current US, but mostly France is source of all bullshit and bullcrap in the World. Fuck your fucking equality, lick your ass with it, it's all you will have left soon FRANCE FTW, it never fails to fail. and Greece sux too, a lot. e: but Puck doesn't sux at all e2: Greece in general, not the guys here. e3: My Homeland - Slovakia - sux maybe more than France, Amount of retardation is exhausting. e4: England also sux, but not that much than the others, but left idealisms is so big and so naive over there e5: USA also sux: We are so equal I will fuck you just because you are the other The reson for edits is that some French retard can take it personal
