I liked thr old way better. There may have been a lot of shit in the reviews, but at least there were some reviews!

Yes I agree. There are no reviews. I don't know if the site is dying but sometimes it seems that way. They keep putting up all these albums and there is no or just one review for them.

Other people will answer this thread and say "register and review and quit complaining and do something about it." That's partly true, but it's not just the registering, it's the whole attitude that was put forth during the change.

Back when they implemented the whole password thing, there was this obvious move to restrict the reviews as well. They went through and cut out tons of reviews even if they weren't insulting and were just short reviews like: "this album is my favorite and it's awesome so get it now." There was this sort of push to force everyone to write these super long reviews (that I personally can't be bothered to sift through). At the very least, reviews had to be descriptive it an flowery adjective filled way.

I personally usually can't think of more than few sentances to say about any one album. Sometimes I'll be descriptive of the sounds and so on, sometimes I'll just say if I like it or not. I had a bunch of reviews like that which were all edited out and I frankly can't be bothered to write anymore. My feeling is they don't want any reviews like that on the site. I found it very frustrating that only one opinion of what a review should look like dominated the whole debate and took over and ultimately chocked the whole review section. The results are obvious. They speak for themselves. Better to sift through some garbage to find the content than to have no garbage and no content.

As for what reviews are now deemed to be acceptable, I always thought the short reviews were usefull too. An album that got a lot of reviews (no matter what type) was worth looking into. The ratio of positive to negative reviews was also useful. Finding one person who likes a bunch of what I like then they say they like something I haven't heard (even if the review is short) is, again, useful. But, the review mafia did not argree. Every review had to include some play by play description of the sound and tracks of the album and should preferably be long (this wasn't always explicity said, but it was implied and it was obvious by the way the old review sections were gutted). You can see the results. Now there are a few people reviewing with mostly long boring reviews and the reviews section is basically useless.

I'm in complete agreement as well. Short reviews have their place as well as long ones, and it's far, far better to allow a few (or even a lot) of idiotic reviews than to have almost no reviews at all, which is basically what we have now.

Bring back the old review format, please.

Noooooo, please don't!! As much as I know you can still write short reviews, maybe not the ones with only one sentence but if you can't say at least two or three sentences about an album then maybe you shouldn't write a review. About the "good old days" of reviewing; were there really so much reviews? And with reviews I mean really reviews and not just stuff like "it's my favourite album, buy it", "this sucks", "commercial crap" or other stuff. In my eyes it is not necessary to describe each track or write pages full of comments about an album but a little bit more than just one sentence shouldn't be too much.

Just my two cents...

Umm... I've never posted a single review, but it's really been a pleasure to read them and that I've done _a lot_. And...as far as I can tell, the reviews are still full of very different comments as regards length, content etc. I have hardly noticed any mentionable change - except that there seem to be less and less new reviews, which is the biggest shame of all.

What of the one-line / "contentless" reviews? I think they never were such a big problem really, not necessarily. After all, it was always mostly _"psytrancers"_ who had written them as well. Usually, the comments _do_ have _something_ to do with the subject matter, even though they may not be "proper reviews" (whatever that is..). Often one even gets the feeling that a few "improper" comments can tell one more about the culture, about the music and the people who listen to it, than do those more thorough and lengthy reviews.

Well, all I hope is that this site will find a future as glorious as the past has been! :)

how about making two things : a review system with quite long reviews (password access) and a rating system where everybody can put a note between 0 and 10 and a single line comment just like :

Psycho Laboratory - 9/10 - Powerful, psychedelic, mindblasting all tracks are worth it - Soyouth

(this would then give more sense to highlighting in red the best rated ones...)

yup, i've said this since the beginning when they introduced login/password system. Almost no one will do reviews. And that's just what happened. So for fucks sake get RID OF THE LOGIN/PASSWORD system.

I remember Elysium Project complained about bad reviews on his albums (no wonder the way he acted back then). Tada, some "high profiled" people in the forum agreed, asked children, mars blabla and the amazingly login/password system were invented.

It's about time getting rid of it. Or at least have a poll on this site. Let the users decide. Mhm?:)

And Soyouth, good idea. Lets make it even easier, make one "serious" review system (The one which is now, with login/password), and one without login/password. Let the users choose which system they want to use and read. It's that fucking simple. Bom!

So, don't have to get rid of the l/p system, just add another review system without the l/p. Ez, 0wned, gg. ;P

I doubt that anyone cares anymore. The guys that used to run this site hardly show up anymore, it seems like they have lost intrest. Too bad they waited so long with this stupid review experiment. It obviously isn't working so why not change it back? This section is dead, the offtopic section isn't nearly as good as it used to be, why not do something before its too late?

I don't understand one thing, some of you (not all!!) complain that the site isn't as good as it used to be (which is true by the way, no doubt about this one) and how much they care about it and want it to change. But on the other hand the same people are too lazy to write an email to ask for the passwort? As if this would take soooo much of your time...

But i agree that the forum isn't as entertaining as it used to be. My personal opinion is, that there are too much people arround. Don't get me wrong, normally the more people the better. But somehow there are more posts with only very few replies and the topics seems to repeat themselves. I think it would be better if the topics with new answers go to the top (like in Isratrance for example). Then people don't have to make new topics if the need album recommendations and other stuff like this. I hope this changes with the new version of this site. If it ever comes...

Another point is, that I heard (don't know if its true) that that psynews made some sort of advertisement, I'm not sure if it was on Audiogalaxy or Kaaza. And soon after that a lot of "wrong" people entered the site. Don't get me wrong, everyone is welcome to join, but since then I don't see as much of the old names arround. One time there were a lot of posts and stuff about mp3 exchange and other boring stuff. I might be wrong but I think that this is connected.

Anyway, just my two cents, hope it all changes for the better!

Go to www.isratrance.com that site seems to be flowering, and they added lots international forums and a really good CD review forum.

Anyway, it's really a shame what happened here, but I think the administrators grew up and have to work and cant put much time in here anymore.

Yeah, we don't see much of the sysops in the forum and perhaps they eventually DID get jobs and don't have time to admin this site. Its understandable.

But there are many enthusiastic ppl out there. Why not get rid of the login system, put some folks to filter out b*s from the reviews, and voila, there we go.

As someone said to me before, this site lives only for its forum. Very true. But sad.

remedy:

1. get rid of the login system

2. make the interface more easy to update (for new additions of releases) and make it look like the 00's instead of early 90's

3. stop focusing around contests and instead focus on these three more important factors;

reviews

forum

upcoming parties

dats all,

Just add a new reviewsystem with no filtering or login/password. Let the people decide what they want to use and read.

I'm tired of this god damn fucking censorship around here.... *gnawrl*
