Otto Matta
Just wanted to give a quick shout-out to Medicine Drum for their album, Supernature, which has been in my CD player for a couple days now. Over the past several months since I've owned it, I've listened to it once or twice and wasn't all that impressed with it. Then I listened to it again and I'm struck by how tasteful and *listenable* it is. Reminds me a lot of early, Violent Relaxation-era Total Eclipse. Lots of nice old-school grooves, build-ups, well-selected sounds, tribal vocals and samples, and some ambient/breakbeat thrown in for good measure. A very nice piece of work. I'm not surprised now that Juno Reactor picked them to open up for at least part of their US tour a couple years back (cool live show, by the way). Guest spacemonkey
i only know one track by them, but i know there style is quite close to that of freeform, from which i have a lovefield comp (featering a medecine drum track), and i recently rediscovered that style too. the nice tribal relaxing grooves and the very smooth production, good stuff! Basilisk
their live show was pretty cool... I'm not sure if they're regular members of the group, but the russian girl was quite a performer and the guy on (electric?) violin made some great melodies... wicked show, and with juno reactor coming right after that... well, those guys are in a league of their own! incredible stuff! Guest ben
yeah they live in san francisco. i saw them live a couple of times and it was really great. Their new stuff is more breakbeat though, but still worth a listen.
Guest PK
I saw them live at new years eve in the Sahara dessert in Morocco 2001. THAT was amazing! There were girls dancing with fire. Kenji Williams is the guy with the violin. He also releases electronic music on his own as ABA Structure on Fungus Productions. He released an album last year called Epic.
