Guest enrique
I've been listening to goatrance, psytrance but actually this is all new for me. And I want to make a compilation of the best from all artists listed in this site but I don't know where to start once there are so many. If somebody could help me, I'd be very thankful. Guest Ramesh
if I were you, I would buy all Distance to Goa compilations, all Cyber Trance and Pulse compilations and Return to The Source. Then you'll see more or less what artists you like most...
Guest enrique
Thanks for the answer. i'm gonna look for these compilations.
khogg
"And I want to make a compilation of the best from all artists listed in this site but I don't know where to start once there are so many." You pretty much answered your own question right there. "Psytrance" covers a fairly wide variety styles and sounds these days. A 'best of' would, of course, depend on what you like. If you could narrow it down a bit, I'm sure people could help you out with some reccomendations. What artists do you like already? What kind of sounds/styles do you prefer? Guest spacemonkey
indeed, since psytrance has so many different aspects first narrow down what you like. from my own experience i first liked the IM AP, later on minimal tech trance and then the i started liking the weirder fin/aus stuff. nowadays i like most of it, and have certain periods in which i prefer one style above the other. what have you heared so far and what do you like? Guest enrique
Hi Khogg, I'm gonna list the artists that I've already heard: Art of Trance, Astral projection, GMS, Talamasca, Jaia, SUN Project. But let me tell you something: I like them all. When I listen to psytrance I feel like I'm not here, you know? It seems like I'm traveling, floating...lol It's damm crazy. But I guess what I need is someone who tells me like: "That song from that group's cool..." Then I can search and see if I like it or not. if you could help me... Guest enrique
Spacemonkey, Could you tell me the diference between psytrance, goatrance, minimal tech trance, IM AP, fin/aus...??? Sorry, But this is all new for me. I want to learn everything. If you could say so... well, there r 2 songs that I liked: Mahadeva - Astral Projection and 360 V - SUN Project. khogg
Well if you like Art of Trance, check out anything on Platipus records, like their compilations, and maybe albums by Union Jack, Terra Ferma, and Quietman. Here's a couple of examples: (not really fully psytrance I would say, but nice mellow trance none the less) http://goatrance.free.fr/reviews/therewil.htm http://goatrance.free.fr/reviews/bestofpl.htm ---------------------------------------- If you like Astral Projection - Mahadeva, then you'd probably like their album Trust in Trance and really anything else by them. (AP pretty much has the goatrance thing nailed) Also check out Dancing Galaxy which is a very good album by them, and their two latest albums are also pretty good (Another World and Amen), although not quite as good as their earlier stuff in my opinion. Jaia is awesome, so I reccomend anything by them, especially their album Blue Synergy (which you can still get at Saikosounds.com and maybe elsewhere too). More artists to check out if you like AP and Jaia: Cosmosis (first two albums especially) MFG (again the the first two albums especially) Green House Effect Transwave Electric Universe Man With No Name Etnica (older stuff) X-Dream (older stuff like: We Created Our Own Happiness) Yahel (maybe! too cheesy for some) There's more, but that's a start. ---------------------------------------- As for GMS and Talamasca, check out: Alien Project Absolum Astrix Silicon Sound Anything on the 3D Vision label (and also TIP World) There's tons of full-on artists and compilations out there... ---------------------------------------- Sun Project was never my favorite. They cornered the market on the whole guitar psytrance thing early on. I think Macrophage and Zwork have some of their best songs. The Delta - As a Child I Could Walk on the Ceiling, is a good track with guitars. Johann Bley also uses guitars heavily. ---------------------------------------- There is a by no means exhaustive list of some stuff you might like, given what you already like. I hope that helps. If you search back through the topics in the general forum, you will find numerous topics defining and debating the merrits of the various styles. Maybe someone else can help you with a quick recap... Good luck!
Guest spacemonkey
i suggest you read alot of reviews, but i try giving a little explanation, although this isn't easy because subgenres are mostly very subjective and differ from person to person. you have heared the following so far: Art of Trance, Astral projection, GMS, Talamasca, Jaia, SUN Project go further in khogg suggestions and also try some compilations they often offer a wide range of things. the music you listened to sa far is mostly melodic, or newer full on (like GMS) or the more guitarlike sun project. this is the style most accesible a the style i liked first too.(IM is infected mushroom and AP astral projection ;-)). the delta is more techtrance espacially the newer stuff (as a child.. is less techy). tech trance is harder and more directed to the beats so it sounds more like techno. minimal the same but groovier, i suggest beat bizarre or other iboga stuff (label). ausie and fin stuff is autralia and finland ;-), they often push the limits in music and are more of an accuired taste. this is the sort of trance you ussually end up with when you become bored with standards and it will probably not appeal directly to you if your new to it, but maby it will. it is weird, the strucutre isn't that set, and it has a high experimental factor and humour in it (tongue in cheeck, it doesn't take itself too seriously and yet it can be hard and serious and the same time). for australian i suggest psy harmonics and demontea, but listen before buying. finland is texass faggot for example. noe all these are subgenres and people will always discuss them for they have their own opinions. as suggested try out some compils and listen to them, you will find certain artist appeal to you more then others, then read reviews of albums they made(if they made any), and look at the label it was produced(labels often have a certain sound and profile), to dive further into that genre. khogg
Yes that is a good suggestion. Listen to various compilations from different labels and you will get an idea for which artists you like. Then you can check out their albums. And you will also learn which labels you like. And also like Spacemonkey said, read a lot of reviews. The newer reviewed albums on this site don't always have many reviews posted but the old ones do and the old stuff is good too! Here is a compliation to start with: The Mystery of the 13 Crystal Skulls

Guest spacemonkey
when downloading keep in my mind that it happens very much that tracks are by different artists then listed. for example i dont know much about alien project but i know MFG has a sample have a nice day in one of their songs so "have a nice day - alien project" could be MFG (or not like a said i hardly know alien project) and of course listen a nd then buy ;-) have fun exploring! Guest enrique
Like I said, the world of psytrance is new for me. I couldn't buy a cd before listening the tracks and checking my favorites. Little by little I'm seeing the artists I like and the ones I don't. So, after exploring I will buy a lot of cds. Well, by now I just wanna thank you, spacemonkey and you, khogg. You guys r helping me a lot!
