This one is just supposed to be a top 10 / favorites list - not intended to be an all inclusive catalogue.

Damn, I really can't do this, god knows I tried, but it's too hard. All these artists represent little pieces of a bigger picture, which means that if I leave a couple out, even in a top 10, there would be certain sounds and styles I would dearly miss.

Give it a go anyway - it makes it fun having to grind to find a list.

That's the sport of it - having to see who makes your cut and who doesn't.

In any top 10, there's always deserving 11,12,13 etc that you just have to make the call on.

Very difficult to do that choice. It's like top ten tracks or albums.

But according to me best are: Goalien, Travma, Afgin, Liquid Flow, ArmagedDance, Radical Distortion, Neospherix Project, Amithaba Buddha, New Born, Alienapia ...

I don't think so.

 

I'm guessing they are on that list because they released on Suntrip, but they've been around, releasing for quite some time, way before Suntrip existed. I'd say D5 is definitelly part of the "old school". Even that album on Suntrip is a re-release from 1997.

 

 

I don't think Ka-sol is a new school Goa project either. I wouldn't classify his sound as Goa, but rather "Forest" scando Psy much like Battle Of The Future Buddhas.

 

Besides, he's released his music since late 90's whereas "new school Goa" to me is the wave that gained momentum following the minimal trends wich were starting at the turn of the century. That means we're talking about 5-6 year gap between Ka-sol early work and say Filetria's first album that I would consider "new school".

 

Again, I'm guessing he's put on the list because he released on Suntrip, but he released his music way before Suntrip's existence.

D5 surely is oldschool, but ra released their first album in 2001 when everyone else was making that minimal stuff and their music generally sounds much more like most suntrip releases than like old goa trance. to me that's reason enough to call it newschool

the new and old dilemas are killin me, there's either good of bad stuff, thats it, loads of AP and Psygone can be mixed and enjoyed together with the latest sounds, just because they were limited to instruments doesnt mean we have to call a single genre in two names...yet (back to topic) choosing is the worst pain ever, and every artists on this list did at least something unique in their own and deserve a number one.

 

i cant choose between lost buddhas crazy basslines or filterias high tunes, or even aerosis's invention that for some reason makes me think of mushrooms every time i listen to them. and i still have loads of projects to add, though i do have a specific one that i dont see on the list.

in my opinion some of these artists should not be included in this list.

 

Dimension 5, Ka Sol, Khetzal, Ethereal, Ypsilon 5 and Ra belong to the oldschool wave and should be excluded cause they made music before year 2000.

I would make a list of artists that started making goa only after 2000 or even 2001.

 

That said the most awesome new wave artists in my opinion are (in absolute no order of liking, all equals):

 

Emantra, Filteria, Felipe Santos (in all his alias), Artifact303, Goasia, Merr0w, Radical Distortion, Astrancer, Afgin, Nolax
