hi guys,

so things are coming i will have my first dj performance in the near future. best thing could happen to me these days :-))))))))))))))

Although I have recently bought a lot of stuff and I have kind of ideas what to play, I would like to ask you for your recommendations:

which tracks are in your opinion perfect for warming up a party (11pm to 2am) to get the people in the right groove for nighttime?

Any recs are very appreciated.

thx crili

For opening a night, your responsibility is to coax people onto the dancefloor leaving it nice and energetic for whoever's following you next.

Who's following you next. If s/he's playing happy/israeli fullon, then you closing with neuromotor is no use. Likewise if s/he's playing hectic caustic stuff, then you finishing with the biggest hands in the air yahel tune you can find may not be such a great idea.

You've got three hours - quite a long time - so figure out where you're goign to work up to. If the party's in more than one room, then you need to hook the attention of people coming in and wandering about, so a couple of recognisable tunes around 12-1 oughta do the trick.

Your first 45 minutes, think about just playing chilled stuff. Nobody'll be there right at the beginning to enjoy your fine selection of unreleased talamasca remixes. Maybe bring in some Hallucinogen in Dub to get the mood sorted; and never forget the power of crystal skulls stuff to go from ambienty to 4-4 in one easy step.

As it's early, you don't want to bash people around the head too much, so keep your bangingest tunes apart, every 3rd tune oughta be about right. Coax them, tease them, and try and keep your set in time with the general vibe of the party.... these people hafta keep going for hours longer after your set's done.

Finally, how do you get boys onto the dancefloor... you get girls onto the dancefloor. And how do you get girls on the dancefloor - strong basslines and distinct melodies.

Bum skanky and have fun :o)

in my experience it is best not to rush into your maddest full on tunes too quickly, no matter how tempting it may seem. :)

i'd personally start slowly with some warm and psychedelic progressive tunes, and then, once there's some people on the dancefloor, play some funky finnish tunes like squaremeat - batman vs puzzler, anything from the eraser vs yöjalka album and maybe something breakbeaty like digitalis. in the last hour i'd move towards some things a little faster but still with a smile like sienis or color drops and end my set with some crazy danish stuff, preferably by the grapes of wrath.

but that's just me i guess .. ;)
