khogg
It seems like cd prices are creeping up. Take Saikosounds for instance. They used to sell everything for about $12 US now most stuff is $13 and it's not uncommon to see cd's for 14 or 15 dollars. I don't want to start a big piracy debate, but this really pisses me off. These CD's are not cheap as it is, and now either the stores or the labels (or both?) are pushing up the prices. This may be to make up for lost revenue, but I wonder if they are going to further hurt sales? If this trend continues much farther, I for one will be buying a whole lot less CD's. Guest daksinamurti
i rather think that prices are going down for example psyshop.but im not sure if thats to good for the labels and the artists. buying less cds cant be the right way--try another shop if your pissed. i think 13$ is a reasonable price for a new cd. Basilisk
Manufacturing costs go up as production volume decreases, especially with vinyl. Its all the one-time fees associated with the creation of a cd or vinyl...
Anoebis
I think it's because the difference between ˆ and $ is 1.15 or something like that...
Guest Jaimz
Source of most psytrance: Europe. Euro value of 1 US Dollar June 2002: Roughly 1.07 Euro value of 1 US Dollar June 2003: Roughly 0.85 Do the math.
Guest Jaimz
Er, I got those mixed up. It's suppose to be US dollar value of 1 Euro. :-) Either way, short story is, strengthing Euro, weakening US Dollar, merchandise from Europe.
Guest r2d2
More quality psy trance from USA would be the answer Then we don't have to worry about the exchange. On the other hand haw about more quality psy trance from Eastern Europe or South America. Those exchange rates would kick ass:)
Guest saikosounds
If you compare the prices in Euro's then our prices have actually gone *down* !!! The US$ prices have gone up because 1 Euro now worth 1.17 US dollar, whereas it was 0.85 for a long time a year ago and longer, which means that our cost in US$ has gone up by 40% in the last year !! We have not passed on the full effect of this in our prices.
khogg
I had not taken that into account. I did the math in a currency converter and you are right. I must trade Canadian $ for US $ and the Canadian dollar is also stronger relative the to US, although I don't think it made quite the jump the Euro did. Guest unikos
london: £15.99(€22.29) - £16.99 (€23.69) is a very usual cd price.... spacemonkey: greece cd's are always more than €20..... and greece is supposed to be a cheap country - not any more... Guest spacemonkey
in greece CD's cost more then 20 euro's?!! i was in greece two years ago and indeed it was quite cheap then (dont know for cd's though), is it typical for everything in greece nowadays, or do the shops just dont want to sell? Guest unikos
hmm... greece used to be very cheap... i was discussing this matter with some friends recently and reached the conclusion that something is really fucked up with the whole €uro story.. i read in the paper that greece has the largest percentage of price rises since the start of the € as currency... its ridiculous... wages are the same but everything is 10-20% more expensive... for example: a bottle of water (500ml) was 100 drachmas (1€ = 350 drachmas) now u pay €0.50 to 0.75 and thats the increase in one year... cd's: i remember that traditionally they would cost 5.000-6.000 drachmas, which is below €20, now it is more like 7.000+ dr. (towards €25) the problem is that its not recordstores or labels that push the prices, its just that everything has gone up... except wages and the stupid economy
Guest spacemonkey
same thing in holland every shop owner of anything sellable has grabbed the chance of the euro by making evrything extremly expensive. the rise in cost is immense, a cup of coffee would have been 1,5 gilders now 1,5 euros (which is twice as much 1euro is 2,2 guilder). groceries are more expensive but especcially the pubs/snacks bussiness has become almost twice as expensive. really ridicolous! Guest Duodenum
well, at least some of you have a psy scene.... i live in New York City, and the scene is dead. of the two major organizers, one has quit, and the other is hated by many people. i know of only one shop that sells psy vinyl, and it is going out of business i thought this city was supposed to lead the way?
