Guest Dr.Snuggles
So what do you think about live-acts? In my opinion most live -acts are disapointing, the sounds becomes boring after a while or it`s not well structured. There are exceptions sure, for example son kite who are playing an excellent act. But did anyone hear s-range? I like his sound and also the new album, but in my opinion his live-acting is rather poor.
Guest Peter
Yes, S-range is really poor.. Some really good Live-acts.. Hux-Flux and Logic Bomb, Some asskicking acts..
Guest Dr. Krelm
In most cases, I would rather hear a DJ than a live act. In general, I have enjoyed DJ sets far more than live sets....they are more dynamic, and have more selection & range in their availibility of tracks. There have been a couple exceptions, though...namely Deep Dive Corp and Cosma. Those were both phenomenal live acts that blew me away. Guest Duodenum
i like live acts, mostly because the transitions and sound quality are excellent. i have been spinning for over 4 years, and it's very hard to overlook DJ mistakes now. so live acts remove the possibility of sloppy beatmatches, etc.. many live acts ARE disappointing, but some are amazing. Hallucinogen rocks. great track selection, and gets quite hard. Infected Mushroom i've only heard in my downloaded sets, but i have two live acts that are better than their albums. far better. think one is the "new sound" set from the DNA lounge (about 78 minutes), and the other has no info. both are very clean, have great transitions, and excellent progression. i think Juno is cool live. anything with live drumming does my head in i would have given body parts to see Sphongle live at Mt Fuji.... drool. Guest Ktrance
Best live act: KoxBox, simply amazing
Guest Tentwins
SUN Project and Skazi are the most intense live acts, IMO!!!
Guest staffan
yeah... koxbox has a really amazing live set... but hallucinogen is better. and total eclipse is also one of my favorites....
Guest ukiro
from the ones I've seen son kite are the best. but then I like their music too, so if you can't stand music without screetchy full-on sounds, you may not enjoy. Hearing their music live really completes the experience though, it's jsut so much better than listening at home. With a lof of other artists it's not much of a differance. Other acts I've enjoyed were Wizzy Noise (probably second best after Son Kite), The Delta (Seen them twice, one very good and one less enjoyable due to bad sound), Hux Flux (seen them 7 times and still enjoy it, recommended), X-Dream (this was very nice), Ticon (way better than for home listening), Miranda (nice buildup and she was like the energizer bunny behind the keyboard) and uhmm... cant think of any more right now. Oh, I've seen 12moons too but as I've also helped hime out live on a number of occasions I shouldn't comment :-) I've found it harder to enjoy sets by Noma, Atmos, S-Range, Necton (can't stand nectons music on record either), Tegma (see necton comment), Tim Schuldt (very poor sound was the main reason), Space Tribe (he was just DJing - poorly), Logic Bomb (their music isn't for me I guess), Analog Pussy (I remember thinking "they're joking, right?"), and probably a bunch more. Guest ukiro
doh, I forgot that I actually loved one of nomas sets, so cross him out of the Dislike-list :-)
Anoebis
like some of you say... Live acts can be really boring... When someone is standing like a granddad after his computer not moving at all... Or Some just don't give us something extra! But I have seen some live acts that blew me away! Psyside (véry good atmosphere, really playing alot LIVE!), Darksoho, Silicon Sound (what a STORY in his set!), Electric Universe (never fails to me!), and Hallucinogen last year at Samothraki was great, in fact, almost everybody was great there, even GMS
Guest spacemonkey
havent seen any psy live acts. seen dj Shadow and underworld at a festival though and they where both great live! even though dj shadow was mostly Dj'ing he added a lot to the vibe and was just really alife on stage, even a bit shy but still givin a 1000%. Guest Sudha
From the ones I have seen most recently Wizzy Noise was the best. I really enjoy live acts, to see the people up there who have actually made the music it seems to add to the whole experience. I dont go to parties to analyise every technical detail that the artists make I just go to enjoy and listen and so much depends on the actual party, location, the mood / vibe on the dance floor..... I do not mind so much if the artist is just standing there, its more the music that I want than to see what the person is doing up there (who cares). In my opinion it must be pretty daunting to have 5 thousand people staring up at you, if you are naturally shy that is.... I did not enjoy Son Kite live, for me its not the kind of music when you jump up because you just have to dance! Kox box was good a few years ago it just does not seem to do it for me anymore. I enjoyed Atmos live and even S-range a few years ago did such a great set that people almsot had tears in their eyes and that was a perfect case of great people, great energy on the dance floor and him playing at the right time of the morning as I do not like to listen to his music at home. Other than that there are way too many super rocking live acts out there to mention.
Guest Duodenum
oh, if we're talking ALL live acts, then the London acid techno scene is quite interesting. as far as i can tell, they are some of the few people in techno/trance that can still do 100% live. DDR (www.triphazard.net) is taking a break right now, but he is really good at building totally live sets using just the basic gear (909, 303, sampler, mixer, etc). Geezer used to be the same, but i think he has moved to more of a laptop setup. DAVE The Drummer is damn good at live acts, but he also moved to a laptop rig. from what i hear, he still does sets that mix live tracks with vinyl, which is something i would love to hear the worst is when you see a live act that's just being played back from DAT or something, with the artists faking it. most people don't care, but the illusion quickly becomes clear if you watch them behind the gear. and then i've seen lots of stuff like DJ Shadow, Underworld, Orbital, etc.. my fave aspect is the sound quality- you're getting the sound right from their computers and gear, some of which created the albums themselves. Guest Setsuko
.. i really enjoyed Ticon and Son kite's act ... also S-Range , Human Blue , Highlight Tribe , Phoney Orphants and Etnica ... the worst act i've seen was Toï Doï ... horrible , it was like hard-tech . .. but I also prefer dj's cause then if it's a good dj , you get more variation in style ... to keep dancing interesting
