Guest Setsuko Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 lately a few labels are releasing cd singles ... Like DS , Spiral Trax , Hadshot ... etc do you buy those maxi cds's or you just skip them . imo this is a great concept for the psytrance scene , since many dj's only play cd's and don't buy ep's / 12" as a collector , imo this could be a solution ( not 'the' but it's an effort ) for downloading mp3's and other illigal copies ... many times I buy a compilation there are only one or two real killers on it , and i lose lots of cash with the other tracks i do not intend to adore as much. if labels would release more ep's / 12" together with the same tracks on cd's I would have to spend less cash for a killer track ... this would be a great progression Quote
Guest Hallucinogenious Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 no no no i'll take a single if its good, but i like to have the complete album. In the House scene some labels decide not to release 12'' anymore ... Quote
khogg Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 I personally like the CDS. I have a couple of them and would buy more if they were available. Sometimes an artist will make a couple of hit songs I like, but I don't want their latest album. Then I'll see a 12" was released by that group with just the song I want with maybe a remix or two on it. I would buy a CDS with the same content as the 12" if it was available. However, if I want the whole album, then I'll just wait and buy the whole album. No sense having two of the same song. I guess the labels would have to judge how many people will only want the hit song or two and how many would want a full album from the artist. Mind you, they already do this with vinyl I guess? Anyway, I totally agree with your statement: "as a collector , imo this could be a solution ( not 'the' but it's an effort ) for downloading mp3's and other illigal copies ... many times I buy a compilation there are only one or two real killers on it , and i lose lots of cash with the other tracks i do not intend to adore as much." My solution to that problem is I no longer buy anything but solid albums or compilations. I hate having CD's in my collection with only one or two tracks I like, and I no longer buy them...period. It means I miss some killer tracks I would like, but... it saves money, and there is always something else to get these days. So yes! Bring on the CDS! Quote
Guest Setsuko Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 a cds for home listening is indeed not really attractive , but full albums and compilations with a few tracks you always need to skip really are a waste of money ... this is referred to dj's only playing cd's... you know , some of them refuse to buy entire compilations just for one track and just download it on high bitrate and burn them on cdr ... now they're able to have the latest single release or remix without pirating . I'm still convinced this is a leap forward . with the right attitude and respect for the artist this should become a new trend for every label . Most people who support this scene are dj's ( or wanna be's ) , well ... I think so. Quote
Guest Setsuko Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 another good point is the quality and clear mastering on compact discs ... goodbye dusty vinyl :-) the ' Vibrasphere - San Pedro (low sky rmx)' on SPIT033CD is a surprising extra and very nice to have in my case ... just to give an example . Lemmiwinks Posted July 7, 2003 Posted July 7, 2003 "many times I buy a compilation there are only one or two real killers on it " yeah man, I absolutely HATE it when labels do that!!! (and about 90% of them do...) SMI²LE Quote
