ok i just listened signals 21 , i am not going to say anything about beatmatching because thats the less important thing in a mix , the most important thing in a mix is the whole "trip" or "story" , the congruence between tracks and of course the music .

The story : You have to work more in that you started very nice the 2 first tracks are ok and have congruence , i am waiting for a great track but instead of that my mood goes down with track 3 wich is not a very good track (the astrix mix is 100 more times better ) , after that comes the worst mix of your set a track that has nothing to do with the story you where telling us and very badly mixed (thats because dynamic - r2d2 has nothing to do with infected - wider , and the whole problem is not r2d2 , the whole problem is infected - wider so remove that track because it has nothing to do with the dark story you are telling us , then comes the best mix of your set (the psysex track) very congruent and nicely mixed (this mix shows me that you are talented ) , then comes mumbo jumbo bad mixed and not very congruent , then wizzy noise and then another very good mix (kluster - nirvana ) again nicely mixed and very congruent , then comes another bad mixed track , then you try to change from "dark" to "light" tracks or morning tracks wich are bad mixed (because you didn`t put attention in the bass nor congruence of the tracks ) , until you close with a track wich is not worth to listen it .

My recomendations:

for the story : listen more mixes from great djs like sasha and howells wich are the masters of the story telling . If you start darker keep it darker until track 7 , track 8 must be a bridge that lets you decend gradually into "light" (morning tracks) if you do that the story or trip you tryed to show us will be more congruent and better mixed .

for your technique : work hard with bass wich is very very very important , bass must be very congruent with another bass , just listen your mix between r2d2 and psysex wich sounds perfect beacause of the bass , the beat matching and the congruence, keep that mix as an example of good quality and how you have to mix all your tracks , because that mix shows your real talent .

Thats all , wich you luck in your next mix

"If you start darker keep it darker until track 7 , track 8 must be a bridge that lets you decend gradually into "light"

says who?!??

Why exactly track 8 needs to be a bridge to anything? And why must he "decend gradually into light" as you put it ? Why not into even darker or maybe weirder or whatever.

My point is there should be no formula and your suggestions are exactly that.

Kingdok I heard one of your sets not too long ago (I'm not sure it was this one or some other) and I think if you can do this in front of a crowd, you are DEFINITELY ready to spin @ parties.

I've heard sets @ events that are not nearly well put together as yours.

Only thing is I'm not too crazy about is your track selection (although I do like some songs) , but that's just my personal taste and has nothing to do with your skills.

Good luck!

Valid criticisms, all! Thanks! Keep 'em coming!

Yeah, beatmatching is still 75% hit or miss with me. Most of the time it'll sound right in my headphones, but the true test comes when I fade it in. 'No full-blown trainwrecks so far, but I'm hoping simple practice gets rid of the double-beats. I *DO* mess with the eq a bit to knock the bass of the playing track down a bit as I'm mixing in. Maybe that's part of the problem...? Other than trial and error, there's nothing for me to do but press onward.

Speaking of, I'll sometimes get impatient and just make a mix for the sake of making a mix -- without giving much forethought to the track selection on the whole, hoping to somehow develop a "sixth sense" to create that storytelling feel mijis described. I've done mixes where I've arranged and listened to all the tracks beforehand, and while the progression sounded better than if I'd just winged it, that method of DJing isn't going to be of much help to me when I'm playing at a party. So, in essence, Signal 21 was just me messing around with whichever tracks (old and new) I happened to come accross.

I figured that Dynamic track would go well with the Infected one (totally forgot about the Astrix remix -- got that one lying around as well) since they were both epic Israeli tracks, plus I just like "R2D2" a whoooole lot. In fact, I meant for it to be on Signal 20, but I goofed and set the cuepoint for track 8 instead of track 9 and didn't realize it until it was too late! ..so, er, that was my thought process there.

I'm reasonably familiar with all the tracks I play, but not so well that I know precisely where I'm going with them at all times. I'll think, "Oooh, this could be a good opener." or "Ahhh, this'll go good somewhere towards the middle." or "Eeee, that'd make a great ending." but beyond that I'm flying by the seat of my pants. Sometimes I KNOW I'm making a mistake mixing in what I'm mixing in, but by that moment of realization there's not enough time left to cue up another track, so I'm forced to commit.

DJing seems to be a combination of good taste, creativity and commitment. I hope to grow at all three.

I want to hear your mixes now, guys! Give a guy some inspiration and bust the linkage!!!
