What do get when you cross an Iranian and a Welshman? No, not cheese kebabs, dodgy stereotypes aside, the answer is actually Akasha. But who or what is Akasha? Well, in fact Akasha is two whos - Babak Rezvani and Shane Harris and their forte is psy-dub with the EP Shamenized being the latest example of which, released on psychedelia’s proponents of the wonders of the world, Free-Spirit Recordings.

 

Based, oddly enough, in the south-west of England Akasha have mixed their cultural interpretations and musical experiences to provide five tracks of down-tempo goodliness and rolled it into this single package for your easy consumption. Wonderfully macrobiotic in consistency and bristling with an energy that whilst restrained still enables the contemplation of power in its rawest. Each track an individual element that when combined defines the genre that their sound exists within. There is, the eponymous Shamenized daring you to dalliance with the spiritualism of the medicine man, an engaging clarity in Shell the Cell with its almost seaside like soundscape , Each Other re-interpretating some of dub’s more traditional elements, From the Other Side capturing elements of the east- west, planetary-interplanetary divide in which we inhabit and the final Sky Lines showing an innocent sensitivity to all that comes before both here and throughout the realm of music and existence.

 

So jump onboard for this is time spent wisely.

:: Akasha [biography) ::

 

Behind the face of Akasha lie two individuals, Shane Harris and Babak Rezvani, both determined to share their love of deep, psychedelic music with the world.

 

Babak born in Tehran, Iran has a life long passion for music, playing the flute, saxophone and guitar from a very early age. In recent years his talents have extended to the studio where Akasha now produce their music in Cornwall.

 

Shane from Newtown, Wales has been producing music for over 18 years, working with record labels such as Hustle Recordings, Whoop! Records, Dirtyblue Records and Cuba Recordings. He has also been playing bass, keyboards and guitar for as long as he can remember.

 

Since 2010 the pair have been working together in the Southwest, producing music that combines various worldwide influences, with the results culminating in trippy, down-tempo, psychedelic chilled-out dub.

 

To date, Akasha have worked with Mode-one records releasing the VA Compilation ‘Aeriform’ and ‘Yead to give’ EP also with Dubmission records contributing to the VA Compilation ‘The next mission: part one’.

 

Akasha joined Free-Spirit Records in September 2011.
