Guest nebbian
Hey man, It's really good to see people putting their mixes online for all and sundry to listen to! Congratulations! I downloaded a couple of mixes, burnt to CD then went camping last weekend... funny to see my priorities -- all I packed were: tent, sleeping bag, some food, pitch controlled discman, kickass headphones and two Lurk CD's :-) However, I do have some (hopefully constructive!) criticism: All mixes were quite well beatmatched, although sometimes the keying (think harmonies) was a bit out... difficult to get right, so don't worry too much about this :-) Also most mixes went on a bit too long. The reason I say this is that quite a few times the outgoing song had a four beat outro, but you didn't go across to the next song. These outros are designed so that the DJ whacks the crossfader across after the 4th beat, and if he does this then the phrases don't get out of time. If you listen hard to the phrasing of Goa, most goa songs have two or three of these 4 beat transitions (sometimes more). If you mix through this transition, then the phrasing gets out and the mix doesn't sound as good as it could do. It's a bit hard to explain, but when you learn to recognise it you notice it everywhere! Typical cheesy hard trance normally has one of these just before the chorus, which is fine -- no DJ will mix through this. But goa seems to have these as the outro, and many people get caught out with them. It was a bit hard to tell through the MP3 whether you're a vinyl or CD man -- what do you use? Also I read on your website that you're coming to Australia! What city are you staying at? If you're in Melbourne, let me know, I'd love to meet you and talk DJ for a bit... the psy-trance scene here is just about non-existant unfortunately, at least I haven't been able to find much. :-( Cheers mate, keep up the mixing, looking forward to hearing your next one!
