Guest Duodenum
hi i haven't seen a DJ spin psytrance in a long time now- how has their mixing evolved with the more progressive structure of modern psy? it used to be really hard to mix the "goa" classics, as they had very dense intros, odd bars, etc.. but now you have full-on and progressive, which both have structures much closer to traditional trance. what do you all expect when you watch a DJ mix? do you expect them to do cool cutting, layering, long mixes? or is it OK to still use the boring oldschool mixing style of intros + outros? have older DJs evolved with the music, or do they still mix Raja Ram-style? Guest --==1400MiLeS==--
They mix stuff more the traditional trance/techno way...'Evolving' is not the right word imo cause all that techno and conventional trance flirting is kinda sad for a genre that begged once to differ... Guest djcl.ear
....regular mixing being difficult could mean that there are MORE alternatives, more different ways to connect tracks... Alternatives to be creative, given the effort(or whatever brings inspiration to the floor)...
Guest Raider
Don't know about you guys, I usually listen for similar sounds when mixing a track, and if possible, I try to beatmix track so they have the samme breaks. Some times I fade the new track into the other while beatmixing, while other times I just break it in after a the clash at the end of a loop. I then kick in the new track with no bass, and if the current track breaks, cut of its bass and turn on the new track's bass. But the greatest think to mix is the harmony of booth tracks. Also take intro melodies, beatmix them into the current track, eventhough there's no actual kick in the new track. That's great fun... But just keep experimenting, it's the only way forward
