Goa Travellers
What do you think? When I listen to these genres, I wouldn't tag them as "psychedelic" like I would for some wicked goa trance tunes with SFX and sounds coming back and forth from all over the place. IronSun
To me they definitely are, there's enough psychedelic full-on and dark/forest. Especially forest like Derango is trippy as hell. I'm a supporter of the view that trance which is psychedelic in nature started with proto and early goa but then evolved to encompass a lot of different genre's all springing more or less from the same source. The logical next step is to call the metagenre psytrance and the rest full-on, dark, forest, suomi, goa, etc... Create a sort of umbrella-structure so to speak. prog4all
Yes, for sure. Also in all sub genres from psytrance, there are tracks that sound really psychedelic. It just really depends on the song. These days there are not just sub genres, you even have sub genres from sub genres: Morning full on, night full on, melodic progressive, off beat progressive etc. And in the future this will only become more and more. I think this is good for everyone as there is much more choice.
Goa Travellers
It just really depends on the song. Fair enough. Even for goa trance artists, some of their tracks/albums are psychedelic, some are not (e.g. Total Eclise "Violent Relaxation" vs. "Access Denied"). OK, we all agree. Guest D N H
Imo there are tracks inspirational and others that are not. Ofcourse that's often a matter of taste. The point is our music (techno-trance) to be psychoactive. But again, there's a great range of taste. So, the only objection is against cheesiness and commercialism. http-~~-//www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTLvTaFlNTM But from the other hand, let's not forget: I'm a supporter of the view that trance which is psychedelic in nature started with proto and early goa but then evolved to encompass a lot of different genre's all springing more or less from the same source. Indeed, it's this proto and early Goa which gave existance to Psychedelic, which characterises it, and which differentiates it from other electronic or musical genres like drum & bass, gabba, pop, reggae, power metal etc. In other words, it is Trance Psychedelic's essence, it's soul, it's root. Oh, it's this thread again. (yes) (yes) The cancers of todays psy scene Psytrance is going nowhere Old school goa lacks creativity
IronSun
Actually, I think that one of the most interesting features about this whole electronic psychedelic music is that it seems to be assimilating a lot of different genre's and add that 'psychedelic'-prefix to it. What that concretely means, nobody can really say I guess. It's the same with defining the word 'psychedelic', but I think it's exactly that kind of 'ineffability' concerning the nature of the music which sets psytrance (as the metagenre) apart from the rest of electronic dance music.
