Creators of video games have often accompanied their electronic graphic & visual art with electronic music.

Techno, trance, dnb, triphop, ambient, even psychedelic, by some of the most wellknown artists.

The best example of this, i think, is the Wipeout series. A merciless speedfull racing in a futuristic setting.

Unfortunately, i can't find the menu track as a whole, which is a nice melodic techno tune...

A very trippy game, a very trippy soundtrack...

I loved extreme G! years ago, someone from Youtube sent me the tracks. If anyone is interested I can upload a zipped folder. I forgot to post songs for that in your new thread, Ormion. and this game below..

Vectorman 1&2 on Sega Genesis! I remember them having a more acid sound.. hmm ;p

Vectorman 2 - more goa-ish than the first game.

as for psychedelic material in the game, nothing beats N20 on Plsyation. I remember playing it being like "mushrooms are my boost? and the game gets all trippy and awesome Crystal Method soundtrack, haha! definately meant to be 8)

edit!! wow! that Fulgore theme is siiiiiick! I need a SNES and Killer Instinct right now!

I'm pretty surprised that noone mentioned Tempest X3. Whenever someone asks about psychedelic video games, it's the first one I must think of.

When I was young, I invited a girl over to my place, but completely forgot time and space playing this (btw. it's super hardcore...this game will distress you, but if you manage to survive and kill everything in the stages from 90+, it's unbelievably rewarding). So my parents let her into our house and she entered my room and I didn't take notice because I was so in the zone, the window blinds were darkened and I'd turned my stereos volume up. The game's soundtrack was psychedelic and futuristic, but you could exchange it and I played it with the Pulse samplers. Imagine Boris Blenns' portamento playing while the game's awesome "Mega droid" sample sounds or "Eat electric death"...it's just out of this world. Anyways after some minutes of her being unnoticed in my room she said "damn you're crazy!" and I sprang out of my skin, but I could only think "Superzapper recharge!" :D

Check out this hommage, called Typhoon 2001. Trippy stuff!

Buuuut of course you can always improve on something. So, Jeff Minter, the guy behind Tempest, did a lot of psychedelic stuff. Check out "Space Giraffe"

Isn't that awesome? Play it on a 50"+ screen and turn up the volume!

But...as to everything, there's always a pinnacle.

Gridrunner Revolution. This is the pinnacle of psychedelic, futuristic gaming.

That game was very exciting. The music was great and positive. The game was so much fun, even with bots only it was extreme fun. Crazy vocals, crying bots when they die, flying bulleds and freezbees everywhere. The atmosphere of the game was extreme due to the great map design, most maps were situated at beautiful planets with beautiful atmospheres and colours, sometimes I would jsut fly around and look at the planets surface, because I really loved it.

Holy shit!! I remember Extreme G... wow that brings back memories. So, as it turns out, that was the very first time I ever heard Goa... and I was 7 years old. Hahahaha wow thats nuts! I didn't hear the genre again until I was 19, but I vaguely remember being addicted to that game for a while. Awesome stuff, thank you for sharing! :D
