Ormion
I always liked specific Prince songs especially the Purple Rain album, but I never dug deeper in his music. The last year I checked more and more of his stuff and now I can say that I'm a huge fan. draeke
Prince, THE ARTIST, THE SIGN. He truly is a gifted singer, and you have got to admire it was never too clear for which side he was swinging...and that added to his character. Musical-wise, some classics he did! Procyon
some queer he is yeah ?? Go figure...anyway, here's talent at its best in this version of "Crimson and Clover", IMO. It is a pity that the audio is crap. One thing that I love about Prince is his musicians, sexy, fatal women. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xs9g82_crimson-clover-prince-sheila-e-ellen-degeneres-2009_shortfilms
technosomy
had a friend in the industry and he reckoned at one stage in the 90's and beyond 1 in 50 pop songs that was floating about was written by prince, and have witnessed so many credits in albums with songs written by him. that's alot of songs madonna is another they both still very active writing one hit wonders

Dolmot
Weird timing. I've never bought, owned or even downloaded any Prince material, but very recently I got a freebie promo album with a second-hand order of completely unrelated CDs. Coincidentally, I ripped and play-listed it today without even seeing this topic. Not a fan of the music yet, but he's a funny character. (Character - get it!? I don't. Gah. Sorry, I'm running on very low steam today after two weeks of travelling.)
Sideffect...
I like purple rain, and there stops my knowledge, never digged any deeper... But I do think he's a talented artist and has an unique style...
technosomy
One hit wonders? you know, one hit! an artist comes out of nowhere with an awsome catchy pop song, release an album, maybe one or 2 other songs that are ok, then you never hear from them again. who writes those songs - them? maybe, or someone else, comissioned by the industry

Procyon
Prince has a history of writing too many good songs that would fill more than 2 albums a year, and some of his songs he thinks are better sung by a female voice (though his falsetto is almost feminine, but he uses it in a hilarious way and sounds ridiculously good, like in "If I Was Your Girlfriend"), like "Nothing Compares 2 U" or "I Feel For You", both written by Prince and sung by Sinnead O'Connor and Shaka Khan.
