It looks like FM synth - like FM8 from Native instruments or default synth from FL studio (DX10) can do this with different pitches of osc then just automating. Sounds similar.

Currently it's getting back on stage, old school gets new wave.

if i get what you're saying, then i've done somthing similar in one of my older tracks with one instrument playing the main melody (16 bars) and two others playing the same melody shifted 4 respectively 8 bars.

Yes, that's right.

It's easy to do and not new, but it's still a great way to add to the main melody of a song.

BTW, the synth is my Moog Little Phatty with a sound created by the Hartnoll brothers.
