Guest vancbc
Hey folks! I'm a real newbie to this stuff, and although I've tried using the search function I'm even more confused now. Here's my deal...... .....so I discovered trance music about six months ago and have gone fairly ape crazy in adventuring into it. I've spent too much money and never in my life have been so tied to headphones or my sound system. However, never in my life had I experienced the amazing feelings I've had while listening to uplifting, euphoric trance such as Tiesto, Sasha, Paul Van Dyke, etc. produce/spin. I also started to explore into other sub genres of trance such as hard trance, dream trance, progressive trance, tech trance, blah blah blah. ......anyway, long story short about a week after some time spent wondering what this so-called 'psytrance' was all about, courtesy of amazon.com I found myself the owner of Shpongle's "Are You Shpongled" and Hallucinogen's "The Lone Deranger." Looking somewhat askance at the dubious three eyed creation on the cover of "Are You Shpongled," I slipped the disc into my CD player, cranked up the volume and waited for the worst....... ......have you ever waited your entire life (almost thirty years in my case) for something that you never knew you were searching for until you accidentally discovered it? When I look back on the things in my life that will always stand out in my memory, listening to that album for the first time will be one of them. This was so far beyond the hair raising on your neck type of euphoric surge that soaring synths and ethereal female vocals of uplifting trance send over your body. Rather it was driving, organic, earthy and.............well, twisted with an unwavering, compelling energy that unconsciously built into a rising crescendo until a break in the music gave me time to marvel and collect my wits before it was off again. Sorry for getting carried away there.......but this was an amazing discovery and I find myself wanting more. Since I'm not a rich man and don't know a lot about psytrance in general, this is where I need some advice. I do know from my research that for now I'd like to expand my miniscule collection to include one album from each of the following: Infected Mushroom, Astral Projection and MFG. However, since there are only a few reviews of Infected Mushroom and none for Astral Projection and MFG on amazon.com, I find myself a bit lost. Is there a general consensus of what is the defining moment for each of these artists/producers, or are all of their offerings on the same level so that on my somewhat limited budget I'm going to get the most bang for the buck, so to speak? Also, any other recommendations for 'must haves' would be kinda cool. Again, I sort of apologise for not spending the hours and hours to search through the whole site, but after a few searches I realise there's so much here that I don't even know where to begin. Thanks!
Guest Mike D
Firstly, check out www.saikosounds.com, dirt cheap psy music Now cd's to get: Infected Mushroom: Classical Mushroom for me has been their best album, and I own all 4 of them... Astral Projection: Trust In Trance is their best work, it is by far their most emotional album... MFG: their first and their last albums were their 2 best, the two middle albums never did much for me... be very careful hehe, I love this usic, but have gotten carried away andnow find myself with over 300 original psy cd's and not much money, so unless you have the cash I"d reccomend stick to the few acts you know you love Enjoy the music for what it is and most importantly have fun with it! I can already tell you to listen to: Entheogenic - Entheogenic some similarities to shpongle but with even more beautifull and uplifting melodies in my opinion. As you come from the Sasha and pual van dik kind of sound, you must like the more melodious kind of trance, so i must recomend this ones: Astral Projection - Trust in trance Astral Projection - Dancing Galaxy Blue Planet Corporation - Blue Planet Infected Mushroom - Classical mushroom Asura - Code Eternity Chi-ad - Infinitism Dimension 5 - Second phase Jaia - Blue Energy Jaia - Blue Sinergy Man with no name - Teleportation Mfg - The Prophecy Pleiadians - IFO The muses rapt - Spiritual healing Infected Mushroom - Classical Mushroom Here's a good site where you can listen to some samples: www.saikosounds.com Good luck. :-)

Guest Alek
Good recommendations. And if you liked "Are You Shpongled" then be sure to check out the Entheogenic album... as well as the new one "Spontaneous Illumination". And don't forget the other Shpongle album "Tales Of The Inexpressible" which has to be my favourite of all 4. Also, get Hallucinogen - In Dub... amazing album.. and if you like it go for Ott - Blumenkraft. Oh, and don't forget Younger Brother - A Flock Of Bleeps! Haha... this looks like a lot of albums.. but they are all amazing, as will see for yourself
Lemmiwinks
you can also check the review section on this site... 03 releases have been abandoned because of lack of involvement in this site, but releases between 96 and 02 have had a lot of unbiased reviews. But don't forget that music tatste is a VERY personal thing and that it's not because you'll find 20+ reviews saying "this is awesome" that you'll find it awesome too... Guest vancbc
Whoa, I never expected such a response like this. Thanks guys! Yea, I'm going to exercise a lot more restraint now in what I purchase. Although with the exception of three CDs, none of the purchases I have made have been mistakes, this time around I'm not gonna be a bit more judicious, eh? Mike D: I'll definitely e-mail you when things settle down here a bit and I have some time to sit down and fire you off an e-mail.

khogg
If you live in Vancouver, I reccomend Saikosounds also. If you order on Sunday, sometimes you can get it by Friday. Also if you order by airmail and keep the shipments to 4 items or less, you mostly don't pay duty! The specialized online shops beat any generic music site for selection anyday. Just keep to the reputable ones like the ones already listed in this post. For Astral Projection, I reccomend Trust in Trance (a.k.a. Trust in Trance 3), or Dancing Galaxy. Infact, you really must have both. For MFG, it's a no brainer in my opinion. You must get New Kind of World. Hands down their best album. The Prophecy is good also, but sounds a bit dated in places. For Infected Mushroom, I can't help you cause I'm not much of a fan of their work. I'll leave that to someone else. Also try Jaia: Blue Synergy. And check out Organix if you haven't already (like Mike said)! Good luck.
Guest vancbc
Hey again guys! As you may have guessed, I live in Vancouver, BC. I'm an ex-patriate of sorts from south of the 49th parallel. I've been here four years and I like it even more now than when I moved, which I didn't know could be possible. I'll take the recommendations and check out Saikosounds. Mike (Shiau), maybe you know me but I wouldn't quite know from where or when? Fire me an e-mail or something down those lines and let me know about the connection. The name's Lance here. And to answer the question, I'll resort to the question with a question tactic: What the heck is Organix? If I've ever been, it's not in this lifetime. What am I missing? Peace out ya guys! Guest Mike D
quote: "Also if you order by airmail and keep the shipments to 4 items or less, you mostly don't pay duty!" also you can just ask them to write demo on the package and they fill the value out as $1US a cd so if you buy 50 cd's it's stil;l only $us50 total value... the guys from saikosounds are very professional, had no trouble with them at all, and am looking forward to catching up with them this December in Hong Kong
khogg
Organix runs a a psytrance night every friday in club in downtown Vancouver. Check the following site for info on that and more: http://organixproductions.com/ Also, check this site too as they are another local group who puts on events sometimes (although not that often lately): http://www.deliria.org/ And don't worry about asking Saiko to write demo on the shipment because in my experience they do it all the time without asking! Guest vancbc
Say, saikosounds.com looks pretty promising. The majority of the recommendations and as luck would have it, some of those that interested me most are out of stock. Does that pretty much mean that's going to be the permanent status quo or do they have a revolving inventory? In particular: Man With No Name: Teleportation Dimension 5: Second Phaze Pleiadians: IFO Astral Projection: Trust in Trance 3 Maybe I should give these other sites a gander before I start asking too man questions, eh? Cheers, Lance
khogg
It's revolving, but some things listed on the site are out of print so they won't come back in. D5 - second phaze was released by two different labels at different times and both of them have gone under so it's hard to find. If you look around you might find a copy still in somewhere. Saiko is not the only place by any means. Man With No Name and Astral should come back in over time. Pleiadians I dunno. I got my copy from A&B sound online (http://www.absound.ca/). The delivery time was ridiculously long but it came eventually, so that might be worth a try. If you've lived in Van for a few years you are probably familiar with them. Acutally, A&B sound downtown often has most of the Astral Projection albums in stock (not Trust in Trance though) for around $22 CAD. They also have some stuff on Twisted like Shpongle and Hallucinogen. For the older stuff you can always keep and eye out on Ebay.

Guest vancbc
Empty Space: Naw, my only experiences with Ontario since moving to Canada have been some very forgettable times spent at the Toronto airport with Air Canada and/or US immigration officials on my way to the States. I hear it can be a great place, and sometime I'd like to go and find out for myself. Maybe see ya there sometime, eh? Cheers
