Guest Filteria...
Hi psyheads...i have a question..i am putting together an album..my question to you is: if you buy an album, do you prefer only one style (tech-trance, full on and so on) or do you like when a cd has different styles in it?? Deedrah and Cosma albums are good examples of this...or do you prefer something like 3D-Vision albums where are the tracks go under the same category (full on)?? I am putting together an album, and don't know if i should have the same style in all the tracks...Any advice or thoughts??? Take Care
Guest Mike D
Isn't an album supposed tobe what the artits is trying to creat? or is this a compilation? Then if it is a compilation a mix of style is nice
khogg
I like a bit of variety on compilations (or albums), but it's good when the tracks have a similar feel or overall theme, if you know what I mean. The problem with mixing it up like having some full-on, some minimal, some tech trance all on one album is: what if you hate full-on or tech trance (for example)? You always have to skip those tracks, and it feels like you wasted your money. Also, I tend to put on different albums for different sounds depending on my mood. So to sum up, in my opinion, it's best to have similar theme or overall sound, but the tracks shouldn't sound exactly the same or use all the same sounds. A bit of variety within a theme is perfect (a really good chillout track can help with this). I think the Nano compilations do a good job of not souding the same but not being all over the map either.
Guest G-Lab
I don't think that album has to be in one style. If it is in one style, all track sound the same and to listener it is hard to concentrate on one specific track. But I'mnot saying that there has to be a mix of 12-15 styles it is laso bad. I think you should have some tracks on the album that are completly different from "main style" of the album, because they make it sound intresting
Filteria
It's a cd with my own produced music (not a compilation)...The style i am making in 2 words is Modern Old-School (maddness music)...but a few days ago i tried to make something else and ended up with a track that sounded something like human Blue/Vibrasphere...don't know if the track fits in there...for instance in I.F.O. you have maddness style thru the whole CD but still the tracks havce their own character...I was pretty happy with that progressive track..perhaps i need 2 defferent artist names
Guest G-Lab
Well, I like when there are surprises on the album. Goa iz my favorite music style, but I play in a rock band too. We like to experiment with sounds, our songs are very different from each ohter.People notice us for this. So i think if you put on your album this "different" song, people will approve it. GL with your album!!!!

Hels
I don't usually by an album if it is just a bunch of songs stuck together by one artist (same or different styles) unless the songs are created (or at least put together very well) for the purpose of creating an album as a whole piece of work... I guess that is to say: I like coherence... Having just a bunch of songs usually ruins that... On a compilation, I usually don't care but if its a comp with good coherence then it's even better (Crystal Skulls 1, pretty good example) BUT, I think most people actually buying CDs in this scene are DJs...in which case, a ton of awseome songs is better than a whole album with good flow and all of that...and if I WERE a DJ, I think I'd prefer similar styles as opposed to different...but then again, if you can do both it makes it better...but if you haven't created these songs with the intent of having them fall into some place on an album I guess it's probably too late I hope that helps some... Guest psilo
i like a mix with psy, drum and bass, hip hop, ambient, house and any other style you care to mention, if its all good music then what else matters ? good music = encompassing of all styles and all genres.
