Imba
Hi everyone! I need advices, i plan to buy sound card but only found this on stock in my city (hard to find them in Serbia): http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/audio_interfaces/ur_series/ur22.html What i want: use it for production but also for DJ and LIVE sets. Is it good? Do you recommend me to spend 140 euro for this? I really don't know much about sound cards... description says: ...perfect choice for mobile musicians, touring DJs and everyone in between. Thanks in advance
Paul Eye
Well if you want to use an audio interface (sound card) for DJing and like to mix on a real mixer, I'd recommend you get one with 4 outputs (2 stereo) but if you're OK with mixing in software I guess you can send the cue signal to the headphones output and the master signal to the main outs. I myself have a NI Audio Kontrol 1 and I can nothing but recommend it. It's rock solid performance wise and it's built like a little tank. Too bad I don't think they're manufacturing them anymore. Imba
Well mostly i want it because production and price is perfect for me, also is on stock as i said Mixing in Traktor, Live in Ableton, would it be good this then? As i don't know practicaly nothing about gear, could i i connect both channes to mixer and control them with Traktor so i don't need players? Would knobs and sliders on connected mixer channels work with Traktor? Could i be able to control frequencies and channel volume on mixer? Thats also important for me. Goa Travellers
Yes, it's a good soundboard, however it may be more tailored to Cubase. Please bear in mind this only has stereo in and out. If you plan to use Ableton Live, there may be soundboards developed with Live in mind. I don't know much about it though, as I'm not a Live user. Veracohr
I don't know, but do you have any other options? If you're just using it for DJing and the like, no reason to pay for mic preamps you don't need. Maybe there's another option for you that is line-level only? CoLoUr DoTZ
It actually gets quite good reviews on internet and the price can't get any better. It also seems that drivers and latency are pretty good. I found a couple of threads on gearslutz about it. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/product-alerts-older-than-2-months/802703-namm-steinberg-ur22-audio-interface.html http://www.gearslutz.com/board/music-computers/818749-naid-steinberg-ur22-interface.html For production should be quite robust, for djing, as already said, would be better to have 2 stereo outputs. You can still connect each mono output to a diferent channel on a mixer to dj but you loose the stereo. In traktor you need to set up L & R from each deck to the same mono output, and if your mixer don't have a mono input you also need an Y cable for each channel. Another 2 interfaces on that price range could be the focusrite scarlett or the m-Audio Fast track. Try anyway to read as many users reviews as posible to make yourself a pretty good idea about them. http://www.thomann.de/gb/focusrite_scarlett_2i2.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/focusrite_scarlett_2i4.htm http://www.thomann.de/gb/maudio_fast_track_c400.htm Don't rush with the decision, and don't be afraid of buying online. I had a couple of experiences with Thomann and they are pretty good, you also get 3 years warranty instead of 2. Good luck with the hunting!! Imba
My only choice is Scarlett 2i4 because has lowest price for 2 stereo out soundcards... 185 euro in Serbia. I need 2 stereo out so if you know more to suggest, write it
radi6404
Ableton is very complicated, I opened it once and I did not get anything there, the interface looks bad and not pro at all. Nothing like Cubase.
Veracohr
That's true, Live is nothing like Cubase. It's unique and you shouldn't expect to immediately get a new piece of software the first time you open it.

Tiny Unit
I love Ableton. used Cubase for yesr, and then Logic Pro but Ableton to me is so easy for psy trance & EDM in general. Good controllers as well. Impulse 61 & APC40 make my studio very easy to work. It also integrates well with Expert Sleepers software for my modular system, and it's great to be able to send stuff out from Ableton to be manipulated via modular as well. i did do a short course on Ableton that sped things up, but more so was the awesome purchase of Tom Cosm's DVD tutorials.
