Lemmiwinks Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 So, as always, I'm always interested in the latest developments of electronic music and I've stumbled on this, well actually I guess you've all heard it on the radio here and there but without knowing it was an actual music style in it's own right, some sort of cross between hip hop and dubstep. Pretty damn commercial but, like in any style, some stuff that isn't bad at all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGjFNhbq0Hk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5wn7Yol3Cpo so what do you guys think? desysko Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 I honestly can't stand trap music. Ya I do agree that there are some interesting sounds but that's where it ends for me. The music style reminds me of drunkards head banging and moshing. But the 2nd song you posted wasn't that bad. But man I do hate those air horns. Eh, maybe I'm just bias and have a dislike for stuff that gets really mainstream and commercial. Quote
Rotwang Posted February 21, 2014 Posted February 21, 2014 Sounds more like a dubstep/hardhouse/hardcore crossover than a dubstep/hiphop crossover to me. Quote
Lemmiwinks Posted February 22, 2014 Author Posted February 22, 2014 Sounds more like a dubstep/hardhouse/hardcore crossover than a dubstep/hiphop crossover to me. hmm well that's because I chose tracks that had a bit of electronica elements in them and which I like more than the usual hip hop influenced tunes Here's a longer mix of a "typical" trap set, that way you get a better idea https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2F6d6crjRyU Quote
desysko Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 One thing that bothers me is why so many videos of any electronic music usually has a picture of some lady? Is the scene dominated that much by males, that we have to have pictures of females to satisfy ourselves? Quote
Rotwang Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 Is the scene dominated that much by males, that we have to have pictures of females to satisfy ourselves? That's hardly unique to electronic music, though is it? Quote
desysko Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Eh I can't say for sure. While I do listen to a lot of other music like post-rock or jazz, I don't see them posted as much as they do in electronic music. Eh, maybe I'm just not looking hard enough. Quote

desysko Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 ^^^^^^ This...this is perfect. How far can we go down the rabbit hole? Quote
Padremac Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Trap? T-Rap? We had T-Rap band couple of year ago, so it's nothing new Quote
Veracohr Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 'Trap' music? That's a new one to me. The thread title immediately made me think of this song from the movie "Cannibal The Musical": 1 Quote
Veracohr Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 So...it sounds like it's pretty much all about remixing? I don't consider it a valid musical genre until someone writes an original song in the style. Quote

Veracohr Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Dude: that movie is unparalleled in its awesomeness! Quote
Dolmot Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 It rhymes with crap. Whenever the genre is discussed, I think of this (1:46 for the impatient): Quote
