Guest Peiote
The psytrance is dying mostly for one good reason: The artists who make psytrance(most of them) dont believe in psytrance, all they do is to complain about the scene, they dont know how to make music, i find very hard to see a good project, they almost dont exist, and i also hate that is almost impossible to find someone wich like only psytrance in the category of eletronic music, no wonder why all the projects sucks nowdays. Another major problem is that any idiot can take a computer and start a project, just becuse they fell like it, and they have nothing to do with the psy culture Read some interviews on this site to see what i am saying( especily the aureola interview)
Guest grahf
hate that is almost impossible to find someone wich like only psytrance in the category of eletronic music, umm... wouldn't that mean that people who listen to psytrance have diverse music tastes? isn't that a good thing? Hels
If any idiot can take a computer and start a project then why don't you? Especially if you claim to have this vision of what psytrance is supposed to be. I don't like where the scene is going either but complaining and saying how much everything sucks isn't really the answer, I don't think. Guest artist
Don´t blame the artists, you can blame the consumers that don´t help the scene to buy the artist-records and support the artists. The artist must pay the studiorent buy new equipment to uppdate and so on. So if the artist don´t have money to this they also don´t have inciative to do good quality music. Lemmiwinks
yeah but what about the artists who made goatrance what is was and release stuff today that is pure crap? I'm talking about Tsuyoshi Suzuki, Total Eclipse, Astral Projection, Bilbo Bagginz (Cosmosis),...? SMI²LE
Guest .::E.P
what is crap to you might not be crap to other people......comprende? I suggest all the unhappy openminded people go and make their own music and then we'll see how good you are at it!
Lemmiwinks
well, we can still criticize, can't we? I mean, by your reasoning, if you go in a restaurant and pay for a gourmet meal and it tastes awfull, you can't complain unless you know how to cook? Or if you buy a Swiss watch that doesn't keep time acurately, you can't send it back to the store unless you make your own watches that are more accurate? Or when Bush bombs Iraq, you can't complain unless you're capable of winning a presidential campaign for US president? Well gee, I guess noone would complain about anything anymore... Guest Peiote
I love psytrance and i cant get enough of it, i like it so much that really hurts me to se the artists who dont really care for trance, and belive me, they dont. I start to get angry about that whem i heard from their ows words, they dont follow the culture and disrespect the real listerners by making pop songs, but most of all is whem you ask them about the scene they say: " I am not into psy nowdays" Love the music and respect yourself, thats all i am asking from them
seraph
The scene is not dead, first...It is just suppressed by new standards. I am also great GOA, especially OLD SCHOOL GOA TRANCE and PSYCHEDELIC GOA fan and I do feel bad that is not made anymore, but I also don't mind the new styles. There are lots of new stuff that are very quality too no matter cause of hyper production of more and more people. Yes, the music was before much more spiritual and concrete but there are lots of new, intelligent, fresh stuff as well, so I am on both fronts about PSY scene. I like 'em both. But, still, nothing from anything modern doesn't match to anything that was made until year 2000...
Sour Milk
Money is whats driving today's scene. People will buy anything. Everyone who's been here from day one has seen the twist. I say, lets support underground labels.
Guest nazca
rao! trance is now a worldy scene. it could be dying somewhere, including inside someone's heart but around here in salvador bahia brazil it still pumps alive and strong on virgin cortex. psychedelic music will never die. especially on summer days. open air. with friends and sweet little velvets drifting 3cm above the floor. psychedelic trance is the best way to revogate gravity's law. down newton! nazca ( ( o ) ) s o o n o n m o o n

Guest ben
EP made a good point about what Lemmiwinks said... Lemmiwinks u have to stop using the word crap when u describe someone's music because it is rude and offensive to the artists... What u are actually saying is that u don't like the style, so next time say u don't like the direction an artist is going. I know that for a fact cause i used to be like u, i used to bitch about every artist that changed their style to smthg i didn't like anymore.....; and then i started to make music, which i really advice u to do.. U will realize that it is very hard, and maybe then u will have some respect for the artists...It is also very hard to try and change one's style every album, and much easier to stick with a formula.... Guest Otto Matta
Agree. Create something, snu. Seriously. Would provide a world of real, genuine perspective. Meanwhile, the scene is certainly not dying. Lots of great stuff out there by people who adamantly refuse.
Lemmiwinks
"then i started to make music, which i really advice u to do.. U will realize that it is very hard, and maybe then u will have some respect for the artists..." ah but I HAVE tried to make music, and indeed I admit that it's EXTREMELY hard... I figure that mastering the technical aspects alone would take up a good few years of my lifetime and that I'd probably not be able to truly express what I have in mind through musical intruments untill I'd be like in my 30s (I'm in my early 20s now). And in that aspect I do have enormous amounts of respect for artists... not only big artists, but also for all those who make tracks at home and never release them and just about for anyone who decides giving up a 9-5 job to dedicate his/ her life to music making!! That said, as a listener, I still have a right to complain about the result, don't I? SMI²LE
Guest ben
Well u certainly have a right to complain but i have seen many posts by u where u say "this is crap" when describing stuffs from Astral Projection or even Silicon Sound or others... U even said that Cosmosis was crap!! This is not complaining... this is being judgmental and rude... And no u don't have enormous amount of respect for the artist... cause if u did you wouldn't be saying those things.... Then again i feel for u cause i went through what u are going through: i discovered psytrance and i found all these good cds and then one year later i kept being disapointed because those artists that i liked, especially Infected Mushroom, kept changing their style to smthg i didn't like anymore... Then would go: "this is shit!!!" But then i started making music and i understood that artists in this scene do what they like and not what sells, other wise they would be doing house or trance music.. also they try to reinvent themselves which i said earlier is very difficult to do... Anyway i suspect u are one of these very jugmental people who bitch and complain about a lot of things but don't do much themselves... Which is safe and easy... but let me ask u this: how would u feel if u made a track and then people told u it was crap? or it was shit?? Well i don't think u would like that.... I have seen more and more people on forums like these being rude to artists (Mike D especially) and i had to get this off my chest.... Lemmiwinks
OK OK I admit it, I might be a *little* bit too negativistic at times ;-) I promise I'll choose my words more carefully next time :-) But honestly, how are you supposed to describe music by an artist you loved that's releasing unlistenable stuff today? "Oh, this is by one of my fave artists, so I love and respect the artist for his past efforts. However, this paricular release is so bad that I can't even listen to it. But thumbs up for trying to do something different." and no, I don't see how jumping on a bandwagon should be viewed as "innovative"... For example, I don't care what anyone says about AP, they HAVE changed since their stuff made in 96 and today it sounds very eurotrance-oriented. Now don't tell me that they wanted to "revolutionize" their style. They merely saw that there was more profit to be made from commercial trance than from goa, so they changed. And yes, I consider that flaming them for such an act is pretty justified in spite of all the great things that they gave us in the past!! SMI²LE
Guest Blind Mind
Of course we can complain and should do it when, without any apparent reason, somebody disrespect us. I don't think that's the case of a musician doing music. You may like, you may not like and it's not necessary to offend somebody, expressing our disappointment. Anyway, it's easy to get the main idea of the topic (please correct me if I'm wrong) somehow is like if any idiot can take a computer and start to say the largest nonsenses, just because they fell like it, and they have nothing to do with the psy culture. (if wasn't something deeply sad, I would laugh quite a lot). The scene is stronger than ever, in my opinion. The movement is so big that webshops are extremely busy for warn about extra-long delivery time, alterations in orders, answer & care about customers, several local shops in a hurry with the huge amount of releases weekly, labels hardly has time to disclose details about its own releases (& the best way to get them) and be in touch with fans, artists always working & most of the times not available to share with admirers the impact of its music maybe with afraid of someone's else read a personal email or PM (which is something really really ugly but we all has our childish side), party organisers always rewarded by its effort, if not with money, with nice & kind words, magazines arrives regularly in the hands of the psy culture lovers, reviews getting much better with an increase of new talents etc etc etc And the atmosphere is very spiritual & mature. Guest Blind Mind
About what really matter, 2003 is, by far, my best year ever regarding music listened/collected (especially Ambient !!!), because I stopped to waste time complaining and started to look seriously for what's around matching my tastes and I must say that there are LOTS of "hidden" musical works of incommensurable dimensions (from all years), that gives a colossal pleasure to absorb !!! And I'm full of expectations for the next year... Excellent stuff it's about to come, surely and I'm always happy and excited (even with chill stuff) because > I LOVE MUSIC But, of course, this is just my opinion and how I felt, but I understand & support the ones that think it's boring, crap & sucks very much. It's just a respectful different perspective. Love is blind as well as hate. It's all there in the mind and that's your choice. PLUR
