Cybernetika
A friend recently brought this very interesting and very small subgenre to my attention, and I was fascinated immediately. The style I want to talk about is often called "mental acid techno", "acidtek" or something like that. A lot of times the good old 303 comes to use, but often not in an all-dominating rule and sometimes as a backup. In fact, this genre seems to fit somewhere in the gap between Acid, Techno, Darkpsy, Industrial and Hardcore, with a very oldschool production (which I consider an advantage for the most part). This is a fantastic track, imo one of the strongest tracks I have heard recently in techno. This has more than just acid-303 spam and focuses more on a dark and deep atmosphere with a driving percussion. The BPM in this style is usually middle to fast (mostly 150-160), and the kick and bass is a bit hardcore-style, with a tonal kick as a constantly droning background. In fact it reminds me a lot of earlier Tech-/Darkpsy, and I can totally see the track working with a Psy-style 1/16 bassline. Another hypnotizing piece of atmospheric Acid, with some melodies. I can see this working well with no problems in any Psy-set on a forest party. this one is maybe one of my all time favorites. The symphony of ultra-dark atmospheres and pounding rythms can't go wrong. This set should give a good overview about the sound I am talking about. Veracohr
It's new to me, but I like the first two a lot!
Padmapani
acidcore is nice i don't have more recommendations beyond the artists you mentioned (basically the best stuff i've found was everything released on the obscure label). but i'll check out the artists you mentioned. my favourite atm is this one: but one of the things that's so great about that music is the long, powerful kicks. i wouldn't trade them for 1/16 psy bass. imho it's rather that darkpsy needs harcore kicks than the other way round
Djuna
Yeah, great music! Pretty popular in Belgium here, more in Holland where they have very good labels and artists. Don't know enough to begin some name-dropping, but the couple parties I went were awesome. Love it as well that the acid scene is more live/soundsystem and hardware orientated. Mergi
words like that always rhymes with Drop Bass Network, but I should probably listen to your clips before I venture further... http://www.discogs.com/label/649-Drop-Bass-Network
atg
Yes, Obs.Cur is the leading label on that genre. Looking for parties playing that kind of music.
Cybernetika
Padmapani, awesome track you posted! I'm not such a huge fan of hardcore and gabber kicks when theyre too distorted but I have to say for this genre some "softer" distorted tonal kicks blend nicely with the rest of the sound. Still think it would be an interesting idea to see this mixed with goa/forest psytrance Also Thanks for the tip about Collision and obs.cur ... heres their soundcloud, some good full tracks on there: https://soundcloud.com/obs-cur# ... I would also be interested in seeing stuff like this live... Sadly acidcore seems to be almost completely unnoticed in germany.
Padmapani
i've been enjoying this liveset a lot lately: it seems as if (the new style of) acidcore is slowly being picked up a bit more by the freetekno scene. so while that increases the chances of parties happening down here, it also means that i won't know it when they'd happen
