What does it take?

To play on a festival like voov, shiva moon, etc. Why does the artists that are there get to play there? have they promoted themselves or their label has done so. Or is it the organizers who search for all the artists they want.

How do they do their live? is it mostly CDs or any more "live"? is it possible to line up acts after each other and play live with synths without a break?

just wondering.

well basically a big festival goes like this: you get a handfull of top acts of the moment which you pay a (relatively) large sum of money but on the other hand insure you have a lot of people coming to see them (= more tickets sold). On the other hand, since the crowd is already there and you have to entertain them for the longest time possible (= more drinks sold) and since it would cost a fortune to have only high-paid top acts (= less profit), you get local and pretty unknown DJs who will play for free just to "be seen" by a large audience. Of course the best deal is when you get only one top act who will play for 1 hour live and then as a DJ for another hour and then fill the rest of the remaining time with local DJs, but you still charge a lot of money cause you kow everybody will want to see the top act live.

I dont think all psytrance festival are like that, everything is not about money you know :)))

And many festivals have both known and local dj`s playing, local dj`s can be just as good as a known one .... (imo)

Most festivals have chaishops, who are run by party people who travel from festival to festival ....

Party some hours, sell food/drinks some hours , sleep some, party again, then work some ..... yummie ;))

About Live @ Festivals, this have been discussed so much and people never agrees whats a live and whats not .... I think most acts doesnt do that much Live really, more mixing ... But when there is a Live you know what to get, mmmmm :))

I never said the contrary, but I can't help feeling a little scamed when I go see a party with a top name written in big letters and an entry price to mach only to see that he played for like 1 hour or 2 and that after that I get the exact same DJs I'd get by going to a "normal" party where the entry is like 1/4 of the price... Of course with festivals it's a bit different cause you get more than one name... still sometimes you'd have like 3-4 known names (each playing for no more than 2 hours) in a 3-day festival!! But yeah, really big festivals like VooV aren't like that, I know :)
